The film is an upcoming sci-fi thriller named Snow Piercer from director Bong Joon-Ho (The Host).
A group of train passengers learn to co-exist in a new ice age, which is a result of a failed experiment to stop global warming that killed off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of a train called Snow Piercer. The train travels the globe and is powered by “a sacred perpetual-motion engine.” The conflict in the story comes from a revolution that brews as a result of the class system that forms on the train.
South Korean media giant CJ Entertainment is set to plough $40 million, their biggest investment to date, into the global co-production Snow Piercer, which is having funding issues.
Based on French graphic novel 'Transperceneige' is being directed by Bong Joon-ho (Memories of Murder, The Host, Mother). Produced by Park Chan-wook (Oldboy) and will star Song Kang-ho and Ko Ah-sung in supporting roles.
Currently in production at the famed Barrandov studios in Prague and set for release next year.
From Chris Evans :
“Director Bong has storyboards laid out so that…he has already edited it in his brain. For example, we will shoot the first line on you. We will shoot the second line on me. We will shoot the third line over here and you say, ‘Wait a minute. Don’t you want the whole scene here?’ and he is like. ‘No. Don’t need it.’ He has already committed to an edit. It is brilliant. It is borderline genius.
It’s like building a house and instead of needing a bag of nails, it is like saying, ‘I need 53 nails.’ It is literally committing to a vision ahead of time. The trust that you feel is like, ‘God, this guy is operating on another plane.’ And I completely surrendered to it. You just completely commit to his vision and trust that he knows exactly what he is doing because he does.”
