I'll buy it without seeing the movie.

Good actors, good directors, often competent screenwriter and his son...:yess:

Most be weird holding a little figure of yourself wearing a little cloth outfit that you wore a long time ago. :lol

For the first time, probably. But for the main cast of Star Wars, at this point, it would be weirder if there weren't dolls of you.

I read an interview with the Potter kids and they asked them "is it weird being identified as these characters?" And they were like, (paraphrasing) "no, we have no frame of reference outside of this."

It's weird when you think about it like that. :cuckoo:

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

You guys will buy the Alden Ehrenreich dolly when you see him "shooting first" in this film. Han will be young and cool again and you'll like him.

Han already is young and cool and "shoots first" every time I watch my blu-ray of the original theatrical Star Wars.

That said I feel that Ford's Han has been properly redeemed and have no problem whatsoever with them starting over with the character. If they blow it, no big. If it turns out to be a good movie then it'll be gravy.

Donald Glover playing Lando? Yup, I won't be seeing this in theaters.

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

This whole thing is stupid. I don't understand why they're so eager to do more prequels.

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Of course. But why movies with "Han Solo" and "Lando"? It's just asking for trouble.

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Disney knows that SW fans will go watch and buy anything with the SW name.

By that logic they could have made the movie about any random smuggler then.

If you ignore the dismissible company line that it's "canon" then Disney is essentially making "Han Solo Begins." And WB seemed to enjoy some success when they retold the origin story of one of their most iconic characters. Did it step on the toes of the Keaton films? Nope.

Probably because Han Solo is a recognizable character. Yeah, it's asking for trouble, but they know people will see it no matter what. With Ford gone, they can make a bunch of Han Solo films and keep that character alive. Make new merchandise to go along with the older Solo. It's probably C3PO's red arm on a larger scale.

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Why, did he say something nice to his fans or something? :lol

Eh, he's a hipster, that makes really bad music. He's also nowhere near as smooth as Billy Dee Williams, he's just not right for the role.

They really should have just gone for an unknown on this one.

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

They are, Rey 2.0 in Rogue One...but that's in addition to using popular characters, like Solo.

I'm not defending their strategy. I don't think oversaturation is the way to go. But it is what it is and at least for now we aren't getting more than one SW film per year like we are with the MCU and DCEU.

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Han Solo ain't Batman or James Bond.

He's been Harrison Ford for the past 40 years, just like Indiana Jones. The face of Batman, Superman and Bond have changed with time in the span of a couple of years. Han Solo? His face has always been Ford.

If someone wants to see a young Han Solo movie, they can go watch Star Wars.

Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

It's like the concept of "fun" is totally lost on some people.

Of course. But just because Ford will always be the one who defines the character for me it's all just fiction that changes and gets redone over time. 40 years or 40 minutes, whatever. One of the reasons the original Han will always be awesome is that yes, we literally do get to eat our cake and have it too because he played him as both a young and old guy in four very entertaining films. That's pretty mind-boggling that that even happened. But am I going to allow that cinematic decades spanning feat to get me worked up about his character being rebooted with another actor? Nah. I got what I wanted from the character and I'll have SW/ESB/ROTJ/TFA until the day I die. Nothing going forward can taint that.

Bring on Han Solo Begins or Mos Eisley Royale. It'll either be a forgettable blip or surprisingly entertaining. No skin off my back either way.
