Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Interesting to see this is at 73% on RT critics. I expected worse at this point. This movie doesn't have the critic-proof "self-conciously progressive" slant that TLJ - and even RO - had that all but guarantees strong critical reception.

So much "negativity" towards a Star Wars movie that no one saw yet...

movie where the best thing you can say is: it had some things I liked in it.
Pretty much.

Studio favoritism. The 'meh' reviews were all tipped towards Rotten for WB and Fresh for Di$ney.

What's funny is that the media totally trashes the RT user ratings, yet the RT critics aggregator feature is not exactly the epitome of accuracy. For example, the CNN and Variety reviews for TLJ are tallied as 'fresh,' yet if you stop and actually read those reviews, there's no disputing that they should be 100% classed as Rotten. Or how about the San Diego Reader's 2/5 stars review of TLJ being counted as "Fresh"?:slap

TLJ's 96% critic rating is only based on about 50 reviews, so just correctly counting those three "false fresh" reviews alone as Rotten would drop that film's rating below 90% (in fact probably further, because Variety and CNN are top 10, so are likely weighted more heavily than something like Indiewire.)

So you start to realize that even the "reviewing of the reviews" is subjective.

Disney needs to slow down with Star Wars. The reading n why it was such a big deal when Lucas had it was because a new film was released every 4 years and the fans had a change to miss the characters, the locations, and feel of it all. But like all good things if you get it too much it loses its specialness. That’s what Star Wars is doing under Disney, losing its speacialness.

Yeah. As much as I hate to see it happen to a Star Wars movie, part of me is happy to see that Disney at least is no longer bulletproof in respect to repeatedly getting a super friendly tipping of the scale toward “fresh” on the tomatometer for apparently nothing more than promoting an agenda that the critics like.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I'm going to wait this one out until it hits Blu Ray. After TLJ it's going to take awhile before I can get excited for Star Wars again. After seeing the first trailer I knew they had the wrong guy for Solo. It just made me not care.

If u fired her you would have a huge mega controversy in your hands...
Huge backlash, huge mega crap storm of angry sjw going after your throat.
Like it or not shes here to stay forever. They might get someone else to co produce, but she aint going anywhere

She can't even make public appearances anymore. She's been MIA almost the entire time since the TLJ release. How much money is Bob Iger willing to lose on her behalf? She's gotta go. Its her or SW.

that might well be. but the hate storm that disney would get from getting rid of her would be enough to ruin their reputation, specially in today's me too times.
i dont think disney wants to risk making angry half of their fanbase.
KK is here to stay.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

But what happens if it turns out that Iger is using SW fandom “cleansing” as his way of sending a message.

I mean he is gearing up to run for president in 2020 is he not.

What happens if they purposely left 1 billion on the table as a strategic movie to show his support for the left that he even has the courage to lose 1 billion as a show of strength and resolve confronting head on the toxic misogyny in SW.

Trump touted his financial sacrifices to take on the swamp.

This would be Iger’s version of that.

I am curious why Disney threw away 1 billion dollars aren’t you guys.

When I say they're losing money I mean the money they could have made with basic competent leadership at Lucasfilm. All the reshoots and the firing of directors. TLJ having the largest BO drop in history. The huge drop in toy sales recently. The likely lackluster BO of Solo.

How many more Finn products would've sold had he not been made into a joke - the classic token black character? Who the Hell is gonna be a Poe fan after he got his balls handed to him in TLJ? How many more Kylo Ren products would they have sold had he remained a serious villain? How many more Luke products would they have sold had he not been turned into a bum with a murderous mind? The same with Rey. What if she wasn't a Mary Sue?

Simple common sense business decisions are what's needed.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Losing money? Doesn't matter if people like them or not, the Disney SW flicks have crushed the ones Lucas oversaw. :lol

Only way something will change is if people stop paying money to watch the movies. And as we all know, SW fans eat up everything put in front of them.

Oh gosh yes when you take a step back and view the overall earnings yeah Disney is killing it and not in a bad way lol

If Solo....the movie so full of drama and being called boring makes 1 billion sorry guys but Kennedy ain’t going nowhere lol

..and general moviegoing audiences. So long as it has generic laser ship battles, they'll pay to see it.

Just look at RO - a film that is just laser battles and boring scenes of no substance masquerading as character development.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

disney will be fine thanks to marvel and their theme park money and their toy sales.

Star wars failing doesnt affect their profit margin. Star wars movie could do 200 million box office and they would still be okay. they wouldn't struggle. disney is too big to fail. the next star wars could be the biggest flop of 2019, it wouldn't make any difference.

the only thing that matters to them is their brand and their reputation. losing money but keeping the right people happy is worth it.

I know it. It's boring asf. I fell asleep watching it the first time. No BS. I like the tone they were going for but the characters were as cardboard as they come. I think Vader is what pulled in a lot of the $$$.

But you to have consider the money lost beyond the BO. GL made more money from the toys than the movies. KK's SW movies may make a lot of money but not the products.

And it is solely a KK problem. She's not involved in the comics or in Rebels. Both are very good.

Who was the guy in charge of Rebels? Dave Filoni? I wouldn't mind if he took over the brand, to be honest.
