Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Yeah, the anti-sjw thing is so laughable on this one considering how "droids rights" is presented. Not only does Lando roll his eyes at the notion but even L3 herself sort of doesn't give a **** about it when she's on-mission. "What do I do now?" "I dunno, free your brothers and sisters or something." Cut to gonks beating on computer panels with lunch trays. :lol

Holy crap I'm literally laughing out loud. :lol :rotfl

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I loved the goofy droid designs. I *almost* bought the battling Gonk toy at the Disney store before the movie but somehow I just knew he was going to eat it.

But I'm also probably still going to get it because um wind-up Gonk? Yeah. Yes please.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Holy crap Junkion just elevated this movie even more i’m crying here over lunch trays lololol

L3 was a nice companion to K2 they really have given us droids to care about other than just 3PO and R2.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I liked L3 a lot. I lol'd at her and Khaleesi's heart-to-heart (another joke amazingly misinterpreted by the twig N berries police) and also at her "WOAH" right before the Teras Kasi ref.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Also thanks to the members who have pointed out some of the references to the old Han and Lando novels (sorry, can't remember who). I never read them but was curious about that massive crystal skull and the "Calrissian Chronicles." :lol

Her conversation with Q was pretty amusing.

I liked that one second she’s celebrating the Kessel job (after not wanting to go) with her “I’m so glad we took this job” then next second she’s dead!

Both her and K2 contributed something to the fight.

This has to be DiFabio seeing us old timers drinking the red juice. :lol

I'm biting my tongue.

I just hope I'm not acting like this when I experience my 40s and 50s. The outright gushing for played out movie tropes we've all seen before is just very, very odd to me. At first I thought some of these passionate posts were parody but I'm beginning to think some peeps here are either advertiser shills or need a heavy dosage of Ritalin. :lol

Star Wars IS forever I guess. Man oh man.

Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Before my final review....a quick story about the general movie going public...

Older couple leaving the theater complaining they fell asleep...older dude says he fell asleep twice, older woman says she was fighting sleep...

Then she said she missed the part where R2D2 died. And the guy said he was wondering where Leia was....

This is what Disney is up against making these films....

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I loved it. After struggling between my admiration for some of the boldness in TLJ and disappointment with the short-sightedness of the same (IMO), SOLO was absolutely what my heart needed.

I was on board with Ehrenreich from the casting news because I had just seen him steal Hail Ceaser and I could see elements to draw on in that performance. So I wasn't surprised that he was great but I was surprised that he grand-slammed it. Not just in his Han portrayal but in the Han/Chewie dynamic (also massive props to Joonas Suotamo for his seamless transition starting in TFA but best utilized here). I was mostly unfamiliar with Glover - never watched community or Atlanta - but he was also fantastic. Harrelson is always good and Khaleesi actually showed more charm here than she ever gets to on GoT.
I have to say that despite my issues with the story as a whole, I liked the casting decisions here. The one glaring exception for me might be the Khaleesi. She's not a great actress IMO. I don't even like her in Game of Thrones. Serviceable, but not great. Han, Lando, mustache twirling villain, Woody Harrelson, all good choices who did what they were paid to do. And I thought the Han/Chewy interaction was also done well.

Then she said she missed the part where R2D2 died.
Damn. That must have happened during my toilet break.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Just because of the warm fuzzies of ROTJ's implied ending that the heroes all lived happily ever after. I still greatly enjoy TFA and TLJ as individual films in their own right. But I can't deny that they took a bit of an "Alien 3" departure in how harsh they were on the main characters that we'd spent so much time with beforehand.

Oh got it. I cannot argue with wanting the ROTJ ending as THE ending for our heroes. My brother is doing the same. I think it will greatly depend on where Abrams takes the story (or hopefully conclude it).

You know how movies based on real people often have those post-scripts at the end that tell you what they went on to do? They should tack those onto the end of Jedi (George would do it!).

Han and Leia eventually have a son :1-1: who later kills Han and is directly responsible for Luke's death.

Leia dies unceremoniously off-screen.

3PO and R2 have nothing else to really do, while Ghost Yoda goes totally insane.

We never hear from Lando or the Ewoks again.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

So what we have here with Solo is a missed opportunity at something that would’ve been legendary regardless of RT score or box office.

What i’m referring to is the train set piece.

Had that scene been allowed to breath by making the movie just 15 minutes longer hell not even just 10 minutes longer, this way nothing else would need to get sacrificed for it, they could’ve had themselves a SW version of Road Warrior that would’ve been better than anything from Fury Road.

As it stands there’s just a taste of it all the elements are present but they had to rush it.

Hell keep the movie the same length but save valuable screen time by eliminating Rio’s character and bringing Val into the core battle. Rio served no purpose other than his die alone sermon which I liked but I like SW having a Road Warrior moment better!

All the makings were there, Enfys Nest and her marauders on fast moving smaller vehicles flanking a larger vehicle that was literally carrying “fuel” cells, harpoons, post apocalyptic costumes, magnetic boots, jumping from vehicle to vehicle hell it even one ups Fury Road and elevates the stakes by having them high up on a train that freaking dipped into corners!

Oh god this hurts to type.

Oh man what it could’ve been compared to what it was.

What’s there is good BUT they had their hands on what could’ve potentially been legendary not just in SW but in all of cinema.

So yeah there’s that lol

Extended scene please i’ll pay for it lol

Loved this sequence. Wish it was the climax of the movie instead of clumsy "hiding behind sofas" sequence and showdown in the sand.

Lots of Mad Max in this movie -- Enfys Nest gang is basically the Thunderdome children, especially when Nest takes off her mask. Thought she was gonna say: 'Memba this?

Now try to see this a third time and not laugh when Nest does it.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Just came back from mid morning showing. Other than theater being completely empty (My 8 year old son and I were only two people), the movie was great. Way better than I had hoped for, as I went in with low expectations after TLJ and the notable issues surrounding this film. My kid also loved the movie (he has seen all of the Disney's in the theater) and thanked me for taking him with a huge smile at the end. He felt that this was the best of the lot. I would definitely see it again.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Sounds like a mega blockbuster movie. Those feminist at disney sure know what they are doing.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Saw it Sunday, theater was packed. Surprising number of people who were 70+.

I enjoyed it, and I think it hit with the younger gen, a friends son who is 19 said it is his all time favorite Star Wars movie. Though this the same kid who felt Raiders of the Lost Ark was too old to bother watching.

There's always gonna be generational gaps where 'new' fans who were not even alive at the time the originals came out, will have not seen the originals. But I think, that if you're one of these 'new' fans, you're doing yourself a dis-service to not see the original source material for your new found fandom. Many of these new types of fans I've ran into they claim to have no interest in the originals, and I think that's a bit conceited. Your prerogative but I still think it's hard to call yourself a true SW fan if you've only seen TFA, RO and TLJ.

I have a co-worker who personifies this to a T. They loved Alien Covenant last year, but have never seen Alien or Aliens. I made it a point to give them the movies on a flash drive but they've still not seen them yet.
