Yea because in this new movie we just learn his real name. In the sequels we find out just how he acquired each letter of his new name, Han Solo.

Maybe he got the name for doing to many hand solos

First one you learn where he bought his vest, second one you see why his barber gave him that haircut, 3rd one you find out more about Chewys family from the holiday special. . .this is stuff the fans need to know. Can't wait.

Kathleen Kennedy also clarified that Bob Igor's statement about the movie showing Han getting his name meant getting his name as in reputation. She said that his literal name is still always Han Solo.
