My wife and I have been together for 14 years, and we don't have children. Actually, we both like kids...and we're both quite good when dealing with them. It's just that we've never felt the need to have them. And we don't feel like we're missing out by not having them.

I think the name of this thread needs to be changed to "Post whether or not you will ever have kids!!!"

Probably a good thing that you don't have kids then. I mean that in the best way. If doing stuff just for yourself is the most important thing. I know people who even still after having kids only want to do things for themselves and let the kids raise themselves. Makes me wish they didn't and I'm glad to see that people who only want to concentrate on themselves not 2 have kids. So I thank you for not wanting to bring something into the world you wouldn't want to care for.

As far as pitying you I don't. However, don't get pissy with those that want kids and that they feel it's a good thing. It's time people like you who can only think of themselves respect the fact MOST people I think do want kids.

You are right about that Josh, I learned long ago that I never wanted children and it just wouldn't be fair of me to bring them into this world for me only to resent them.

In regards to getting pissy, I don't feel that I really am. I know the majority of people want children but those that I talk to look at me like I am a freak and that I should want kids. All I am saying with my posts is that I am not abnormal just because I don't want children. It takes all kinds to make this world go round and my opinions about not having children shouldn't be brushed off like I am just a naive person and that all will change with age. It's just offensive. It's like when someone tells a gay person that they are going through a phase and they will come out heterosexual at the end-it's a concrete decision and it wasn't made lightly.

I have to admit I find it odd when people say that they don't want kids. I'm fine with it I just find it odd because of how much I look forward to it. I don't say that or mean it to be rude or crass. I just hope when people say that they don't or they do something so they don't. There are enough people out there who end up screwing around and having a kid they don't want. So by all means don't have kids.

Rory I hope I didn't offend you, it wasn't my intent. I'm not saying you will or won't change your mind, rather just the fact that life has a way of turning things upside down.
Two examples I have on this issue from people I know: my friend Joe was the most totally selfish person in the world. Not in a bad way, he just wanted what he wanted and kids were not in the picture at all. Well life stepped in, his girlfriend got pregnant, and then he had two more.
On the other hand my friend Don, who loved kids, planned on a large family. He and his wife had a daughter, and sadly she developed leukemia and passed away at four years old. They also divorced and he got remarried but had a vasectomy because he never wanted the chance of going through it again.
As for myself, I was young and very self absorbed (often even described as self destructive) and never wanted kids, a family, hell I never had a relationship last more than six months. But life changes you, age changes you. So please Rory, don't feel I was being condescending, I wasn't. I respect your views, as a matter of fact I can count lots of people I wish hadn't had kids. All I was saying is that the way you see things now will be different than the way you see them in ten years, just like the way you see things now is different than you saw ten years ago. You might have an even greater resistance to children than you do now, or you might have less. The only thing thats certain is that things always change.

my selfish butt will be laughing about it drinking cuba libres on a beach in Costa Rica not worrying about a baby sitter or what any other human being I am responsible for is doing.

It's time for people with children to respect the decisions of others who choose not to have them . Don't look down on us or pity or childless lives- understand why we choose not to follow in this game.

No worries. When I say it's offensive I just mean it puts me off a little. I understand where you are coming from and agree that life changes you and that things change no matter how hard you try to prevent it from happening.

I was just saying that people act like the decision not to have children is made over night when in fact it really takes your whole life. Things have so many variables it's just careless to assume people will automatically change their mind. Not saying that's what you think but some I have talked to do. I luckily have not had any slip ups and have found a partner which shares my view so we'll see how the future goes. I am not intentionally trying to put anyones views down, just stating that their is always another side to the coin.

What's a little sad to me is how much I DON'T want kids in any way, but the family name dies with me.....sorry to my grandparents and parents.......no more kids in my family line!

Im sure all those saying they don't want/like kids tune would change once you look into your sweet child's eyes, feel thier hand grip your own and hear them say mama or dada for the 1st time.. Priceless..

I have no regrets as I have laid the finest women, partied as hard as I could and experiened pure independence for many decades..

Anyone who has seen Jerry Springer should know not everyone should be a parent, and with the over population problems in the world its a damn good thing some people don't want kids.

I don't understand the argument, "why you should have kids...blah blah blah".

Dont want kids, good, one less mouth to feed in a ****ed up world.

Just my opinion.

Hey if you're certain the vasectomy is a great way to go. Took about twenty minutes. I watched the right side get done, but the left was pretty painful. Imagine a guitar string that runs from your knee to your rib cage and someone is plucking it.
But they remove a section of vas deferens, cauterize the ends and put titanium clamps on the ends.
