I love it, and the fact i have a very eclectic,diverse and obscure interest in music and i don't have much interest in the force fed crap that most people like, empty meaningless music is not an escape, music should be an escape from reality much like watching a Sci-Fi/fantasy movie.

See, its not depressing to me..its quite soothing, now what i hear on the radio and see on tv and commercials..thats depressing.

Don't get me wrong, not all of it's that way. The last song you posted was nice.

It's just alot of your favorites that you post in different threads seem to be......I don't know......angry or depressing. Nothing wrong with that, but I would think it would be a real downer after awhile.

Honestly, I haven't felt the whole "despair makes you feel comfortable" since I passed puberty or so, but. . .

Don't get me wrong, not all of it's that way. The last song you posted was nice.

And see, i feel the same way about overly happy supposedly "postive" songs that i just find very meaningless and empty..i never was drawn to a "catchy" song or beat, music never had that effect on me.My music choices though, do not reflect my overall personality. If you were to ever meet me or talking to me say on the phone, you would see i am quite laid back and humble but, not overly bubbly and fake..as if i am trying to mask something.I am not that type of person that walks around with a stupid smile on my face 24/7 pretending to be someone i am not, i am also not amused by simple minded music that has such a huge effect on people, for example Lady GaGa lol.

I am not an elitist when it comes to music really but, i hate it when people who listen to all that top 40 hits of today stuff, whine about stuff i like.."its too heavy" "OMG screaming, yuck! put on Beyonce thats real music" *shudders*.

See, i like to think my taste in music and movies blend together quite well..its about dreaming, letting it take you away from the madness i see on tv, on the radio etc, its my escape and its shared by many but, not all..which i think is great...almost everything thats popular in this day and age sucks IMO, its like a lost generation feeding off bits and pieces of the past.

I see your point, but what I said was: "Despair feels comforting when you here these songs."

Don't wanna split hairs, but it does have a slightly different implication.

It's not that I am necessarily in despair while listening to it, it's that the artistic expression of despair can be quite comforting at times. Make sense?

When you listen to these songs it romanticizes sadness and it feels "pleasantly melancholy." If that sets me back to "puberty or so" then so be it. Nothing wrong with being young at heart. These kind of songs and the experience that I am describing are a way to 'stop and smell the roses' at any age.

I was listening to this song and my lovely GF came over and asked what I was listening to... I tell her and she sits on my lap and says "It's a nice song"

I tell her "This guy on the Freaks board recommends looking out a window while listening"...so she does..."Oh that's just great!" she says and gets up and starts to walk outside, I look out the window and lo & behold what do I see? Two dogs getting it on in our front yard.

Next thing I see is my GF showering the dogs with cold water chasing them away.

That's so awesome.

That's probably the one thing you could look at out the window that wouldn't look sad when listening to that song!

Glad to see that others recognize the power of Nine Inch Nails when it comes to this feeling.

I'm gonna post this one before someone else does because to me it is the ultimate when it comes to 'pleasantly melancholy songs to die by.'

I can't tell you how many thousands of times I have listened to this song. It may be my favorite song of all time. Seriously.
