Well as he posted, Dave is actively looking for suggestions, meaning his ideas aren't fully set in stone yet. As such, a FAQ would be premature. But no doubt those issues will be worked out before the new site materializes.

I believe such a practice has been around a long time. Whenever a new announcement is posted, the respective thread is also updated with it's affiliate product link.

I'm not sure if many people frequent the Announcement section (The views are paltry).

Yup. Its turned more into a place where people pimp their new stuff. Which is awesome, but that's for sales. I'm happy the change is coming.

The one major change that should take place re: customs is that the sales will be moved away from everything else. But I'm not sure if Nam's hope that the pure custom salesmen would be completely separated from the hobbyists is going to happen. It sounds like discussion of figures (being sold or not) will still take place in the general customs section. And the reality is that those guys who are here to sell typically have more discussion of their products than do guys doing customs for the sake of doing customs.

this is a good way to get the competition out the way. with the sales drop at sideshow i guess they are trying to milk the forums now for a few bucks-----lame----this was a place for toy junkies to come together and talk and trade toys, and now sideshow has to ruin it, leave it to a corporation to corrupt all things..........
i will say it again LAME---maybe if ss would focus on quality instead of the forum section of their business they can succeed again---i guess they have to recoup giving away hot toys angela for free-----

Sideshow has a relationship with the board, in that they have affiliate links, communicate with customers here, and work with the admin in various ways. But Sideshow Collectibles doesn't own this site or dictate what it does. Darklord Dave does, and this is all his decision.

And the reality of the situation is--this forum isn't just used for members to shoot the **** and trade now and then. Some use this as the foundation for their business enterprises.

There has to be some time regulation for customizers putting out their work. I can think of three projects I bought into myself that are going almost a year and still not received anything.

Another thing I'd like to add to this thought... its not like Dave just will nilly decided to line his pocket with a few coins. Hes ran this board without this premium membership, there was a thread not too long ago where forum members, not Dave were suggesting a paid premium membership for those desiring more features. If I remember right, I actually think Dave was hesitant about the idea, so the man has obviously put alot of thought into our request for paid membership.

Most custom items aren't cheap, so I imagine they can afford to pay the membership fee.

Those already gone from this board, has selling sites and fanbase to spread the word.
Others has little to none profit from selling their small pieces of art to 30-100 ppl worldwide

Also,I have a funny feeling that prices on stuff will go up, so offset fees...

I don't like the idea of having to pay a membership fee to buy things from other freaks on this forum. I see alot of people taking their business elsewhere or PM's behind the scenes to get around the fee.

So can someone answer whether this Premium Membership to post sales is only for customs, if one only has to pay to sell or if you have to pay to buy and what are these "perks".
For no payment on OSW, for example, gets 30,000 pms as opposed to the 100 afforded us here.
And, honestly, I don't see an advantage to charging people to buy if that is one of the things under consideration.
I think more clarification is needed and not just suggestions and panic.

Hoorah!!! F'n Hoorah! I for one will be getting this. However a site called sandtroopers.com did this and lost a lot on forum members. Gold costs like $50, Premium $25 there. Honestly if DD cuts that in half of what they ask for a year round buy/sell. Place should work as dandy as a PS+ membership.

I for one have been burned here, -$1,795. So f'n hoorah! Course my future leather sales will be my own website, so I'll be no different than Stevo. But I'll have premade stock.
