:lol Thanks for the defense, guys. But it's not worth starting a fight over. I can take criticism, if it's constructive and useful. Ford is a very hard guy to capture. I think I've only ever seen ONE Ford sculpt I liked, and it was 1:1. I've seen a ton of 1:6 versions people crapped over that I sort of liked, and I've seen a few people raved over that I hated outright. The guy has a highly subjective face that seems to change with the slightest change. He's almost like Gary Oldman.

That first one I posted (the one reposted here by icruise)..... I can't even explain what the hell went wrong with that one. It photographed really well unpainted. But once it was painted, it's awful. And it's worse in person. The face has some really bizarre plains in it. The best I can describe it, imagine you have Ford's face on a sticker or decal. Now wrap that sticker around a marker or other round object that's much thinner than that printed image. Kinda like that.

Here's another I did that looks better. See what you guys think of this one:

And with a shorted chin. I think I tend to make his chin too long sometimes....

Head a bit more narrow overall......

I think he's a tad bit too narrow now... but a huge improvement! Like the Keaton Batman I can see you really put a lot of work in to refining your figures :rock

Don't worry about the last photo, galactiboy. I didn't really alter the head to be narrow. That's just a photoshop trick.

I did the chin/jaw alterations. The head is in a mold now, should have a final finished and painted piece in a couple days or so.

abake, thanks for catching that lip thing. I had cut one side of the upper lip at a different angle than the other side. Gave him kind of an Elvis sneer. Got that fixed, too.

I agree that some people (mostly people who have no interest in buying a figure in the first place, I would wager) were a little too blunt with their criticisms. However, you don't need to have sculpting skills to be able to critique a sculpt. And I think it's important to note that this isn't just someone showing off something that they did for their own pleasure -- it's a product that Shawn wants people to buy. In that sense, I would hope that he would want people to be honest, rather than just giving him compliments and then not buying when the time comes. I'm sure he wants to give people what they want and will use any thoughtful advice to improve the product.

I agree with you on those points icruise. I majored in art in college, and had to do an art exhibition before graduation. I became accustomed to "constructive criticism" in doing my oil, pastel, watercolor and other mediums of paintings, and pencil drawings. I agree about not just flat out lying to Shawn, and saying the sculpt is good when it is not. I just wanted to be sure that I would let him know I would do better in the future to constructively criticize his work as a fellow customizer, and board member here. :D Keep up the great work Shawn. I haven't done my own custom head sculpting...yet. But I really want to give it a try. How do you get started? What supplies would I need? Please let me know here, or send me a PM. There's many other celebrities and movie and T.V. characters I'd love to make that I know will likely never be made by any toy company. Thanks again! :D

The last pics are a great improvement from the first round.
Everything above the nose looks great!
On the side view, the nose and mouth seem to protrude a little too far, but overall it's looking good. Would love to get more information about getting a complete figure from you.

Thanks,
BillyB

Yes, good points! The key concept in criticism is constructive.

A constructive criticism is "the face needs to be much flatter" or "Ford's nose bends slightly to his right."

It is not; "That sucks." or "That's great!"

Constructive criticism is helpful and allows work to be improved.

I agree... it certainly helps me to hear good criticism. It's hard when someone just says.. "it sucks."

That doesn't give me anything to work with. :lol

Sorry to quote the whole post. I noticed that the side shot may be what is causing ot to be off. The side shot looks as if he is changing into a werewolf. Please don't take that to be rude-it's not meant that way as I'm still waiting to be given the chance to order a Lurtz.

I'm currently reworking the top of the head, so ignore the weird black hat I used to hide it. Other than that, this is the Ford head I'll be using for Deckard and Indy......
