Something I find funny, prior to The Last Jedi you could barely get a good word about the prequels out of most people. Now something else they dislike more comes along and suddenly there’s a more vocal group talking about how those films aren’t so bad and Lucas was really this magical visionary behind Star Wars even though most hated everything he did after the mid 80s.

I never hated George. I mean can you imagine a world without Star Wars?

Apparently he got an ENORMOUS standing ovation when he went to take his seat at the premiere last night.

Hate is a strong word for someone I don’t know personally. I lost a ton of respect for him though as time went on. Some things that he did seemed deliberately aimed at making people mad and came off like completely stupid decisions. I also think he gets more credit than deserved at times for Star Wars. While the ideas were his a lot of the best aspects of the Original Trilogy came from other people. I picture Lucas as an individual who thinks he’s always right and that people need to accept his vision and nothing else matters. I’m personally glad he’s not directly involved with the franchise anymore.

After reading all three "Making of" books of the original trilogy by J.W. Rinzler, I believe Lucas deserves the credit. And much more. Really I can't imagine hating him after those books.

Just my opinion.

I have those but haven't taken the time to read them all yet. I agree that Lucas gets discredited more than he should. Sure he had lots of really talented help but he made it all happen.

Either way though while he’s created Star Wars which is obviously a huge legacy the Original Trilogy is really about all he’s done of note (okay I do like American Graffiti). The Prequel Trilogy while still huge because of the Star Wars name aren’t nearly as good of films in any aspect. I also think all his subsequent tinkering of the Original Trilogy damages his judgment as a filmmaker.

No doubt the silly edits of the OT were just plain bad. And the direction he went with the sequels was mostly really bad too. But the guy had the vision to make the original trilogy and deserves a ton of credit for it. Lots of other folks deserve credit for it though too:)

I don't hate Lucas, I just think he's someone who needs strong and talented creative partners to collaborate with and bring the best out of himself and his ideas. That and the simple fact that everyone needs a reliable sounding board, and to be told "no, that's not good enough" or "that doesn't work" once in a while to stay sharp and keep creatively honest and self aware.
Whether done intentionally or not, when he started surrounding himself with yes men like Rick McCallum, people who simply reflected his greatness back at him without hesitation, praised everything he did or said or suggested, and told him what he wanted to hear, rather than what he needed to hear, that, to me, is when the wheels started to fall off. And that only magnified as Lucas took personal direct primary control over so many different aspects of production with the prequels.

To me the prequels still are what I've always found them to be, mediocre films with occasional flashes of greatness along the way, and the faint whiff of what might have been under steadier hands and wiser council. The original trilogy Special Editions, and the reception they received in many quarters, particularly amongst fans, should have been a wake up call to Lucas and company, a cause for reflection and re-assessment, and a push to cast a more critical eye over certain aspects of the prequel(s) and perhaps avoid making similar misjudgments. Instead he doubled down on some of the worst aspects of the SE's changes with the prequel trilogy, and we got what we got...

All of the most iconic moments in Star Wars that everyone remembers were actually suggestions from Marcia Lucas.

Gary Kurtz has described having long nasty drawn-out fights with George over the creative direction of Star Wars in various interviews. The quality of SW really nosedived after he split from Lucasfilm.

Lucas hasn't had creative partners like Marcia and Gary since Return of the Jedi. There was no one at Lucasfilm to tell George his Prequels ideas were terrible and now there is no one there to tell Darth Kennedy that her Star Wars is also terrible. This is what happens when you are surrounded by yes-men and not creative collaborators, as you so nicely put it.

I love how Prowse guessed the end of Empire Strikes Back in '78 in front of a crowd of SW fans in San Fran, two years before the movie came out.

Every week we lose ahead of this movie is a figure we can remove from the list of possibilities.

Now I'm thinking we'll be lucky to get 4 figures from this movie.

Han
Lando
Chewie redo
Mudtrooper (perhaps a variant of this too)

No villain, no girl, no sidekick

I don’t see them skipping troopers, the droid either. I think you’ll see them before a majority of the human characters

I think the safest bets are Han, Chewbacca, and Lando from the film. Truthfully those are about the ones I’d be interested in anyways.

I really hope they improve Chewie in HT form. The TFA one was a big step down from the ANH version IMO

This ....exactly...well said.

Saved me a bunch of typing.

An L3 and Lando would be a cool set.

Enfys looks dope, but might be wishful thinking. Honestly surprised they haven't announced any figures from the movie yet.

Also...Very big Solo Spoiler:

If they're ever going to make a Hot Toys version of Maul now is a good time. Both in terms of Anakin, Obi-Wan being put out and with the surprise in Solo

...WOW!

Of course we're not hating him,but those books empathize the impact of the OTHERS more than ever. ESB (my favourite) was mainly Kersh movie, with Lucas supervising....that's how greatness came out. I haven't read the last book (ROTJ) but I imagine something must have gone wrong.

Yes, DIVORCE !
Marcia Lucas was the soul and conscience of this man, "before the dark times, before the Ranch" !!!
