1/6 Speculation: Star Wars Episode IX Figures

Well I was going to say I?d be happy with any Chewie but after seeing that pic....I didn?t know they were THAT bad. I haven?t spent a lot of time in the dedicated thread for the Episode VII figure.

Makes me question the prices on eBay for the Episode VII version.

Unrelated note, anyone know why Tapatalk replaces apostrophes with question marks?

I've got both Episode IV and VII Chewies and I don't think either of them are superb, but both are quite enjoyable...if that makes sense.

Ah nice one Dennis. I suppose I'll just wait to see if I can snag a decent deal whether it's the IV or the VII one. I suppose it'll just be the case of futzing it the right way and spending a lot of time doing it.

I guess it's all a question of timing. Mandalorian is what everyone is talking about now, so they need to get those out now while the iron is hot. Also they need to have some room between Season 1 and Season 2 figures.

Then they also need to consider Star Wars collectors wallets. They're not going to sell a lot of figures if they flood the market with Mando, ST and OT figures all at once. So they need to pace themselves to maximise sales.

I mean don't get me wrong, this year should be a good year for Star Wars. Last year SW was overun by the more popular Marvel franchise.

If there is any plus side to this Corona Virus you would think it's for figures for older OT movies. If new movies are being pushed back then it leaves more room for OT movies. Probably also explains somewhat why they are going so deep with The Mandalorian figures I guess.

I would also thought that Hot Toys would think of it as a no brainer to repackage a Chewie with an Episode 9 box. I still really need a Chewie and the eBay prices are ridiculous.

I've also been wanting another Chewie, but I was deterred by the weird mouth on the TFA version. It would be great to get an ESB deluxe version with a disassembled C3PO.

Like with the dceu hot toys doesn?t make figs that won?t sell. Shazam was teased and nothing. Poe isn?t really well liked outside people who like the ST which is a small amount of people like it or not. Hot toys doesn?t take risk like they use to

Still surprised they didn’t release a Poe still, at least give the people who liked the ST their big 3. Do a small run or something.


Hopefully we see new Star Wars stuff May 4th or at some virtual SDCC. Still a lot of figures to release.

I was going to say, surely you don't want the abomination that were the last couple. They need to stick with the original Ep IV version design and colouring.

Who knows, if you're lucky and they ever get around to making C3PO, they'll do a Bespin version of Chewie with C3PO bits.

People would go mental for that version I reckon.

And yeah, the Ep IV Chewy really has some face issues too, but futzing can get around maybe 3/4 of it to make it look pretty good. They do vary quite a bit though - because of the fur/glue wildcard, some fig faces came out better than other.

I see what you?re saying. But look at the Jet Troopers. As much as I like them, I highly doubt those are more likely to sell better than an X-wing Poe. Surely it would be the other way around, comparing most of the past ST troopers to main characters. People have been waiting for him since TFA.


While not totally accurate I do think the ANH Chewie has a far better headsculpt than the TFA. Id like to see an updated figure with an all-new head though. A deluxe with net bag and disassembled Threepio would be amazing.

I see what you?re saying. But look at the Jet Troopers. As much as I like them, I highly doubt those are more likely to sell better than an X-wing Poe. Surely it would be the other way around, comparing most of the past ST troopers to main characters. People have been waiting for him since TFA.


While not totally accurate I do think the ANH Chewie has a far better headsculpt than the TFA. Id like to see an updated figure with an all-new head though. A deluxe with net bag and disassembled Threepio would be amazing.

Yeah, what's weird about the ANH Chewy is that I have three of them (got amazing deals on all three - each one was cheaper than the previous) and each time I got one, the head looked a bit better, so there are "worse ones" and "better ones" out there.

The first one I have in my main ANH display alongside Han (not pictured) and it has a bit of that derpy HT Chewy look, then the next one I used for ESB looked slightly better, then the one I'm using for ROTJ, the last one I bought, just looked noticeably better than the previous two (sorry, darker pic was all I had) right out of the box. None of my Chewies have any modding.

I do think they should go back to Chewy and do an all-new head (hey, Chewy has a big role in TROS!) but after three releases and all being a little worse than the previous, I'm not too hopeful.

It's so weird that I literally JUST finished watching the Zoom reunion for Goonies from today - the movie that everyone said the Sith dagger idea reminded them of.

Chewy had a pretty substantial presence in TROS (I mean he "dies") so in a different world there might have been a new Chewy but they only really did a few figs from TROS and Chewy's a no-show.

But yeah, I always plan to sit down and do more significant mods to my Chewies but I take them out and I go "eh, they sorta look fine." Pulling the fur from the chin is pretty essential though. I was pretty shocked when I took that newest one out of the box though - I was like "oh, I guess this is how they were all supposed to come out." It's still not close to a perfect Chewy, but way closer than that fig usually is.

That Chewie is awesome. This is the version I want Hot Toys to make. Deluxe with broken down C-3PO.

I honestly think it?s cause people like to build armies. So they release lots of storm troopers. Like clones and troopers sell real well cause people like to army build with them . Just speculation

Thanks and yeah I feel like posting pics like this maybe HT will see it - if they ever come to forums like this (we can dream, right?) - and go "all we have to do is cast a few pieces of our 3PO sculpt and tweak Chewy a bit and we've got a DX ESB Chewy release." I'd love to see HT do it - I'd dump this custom one into a white container and make it an accessory for Leia Bespin.

FYI I just used one of those TFA "C-Cheapio" figs that had the red arm (they were $20 or even under on eBay - they are slightly undersized, but not too bad.) Here are some closer angles (right click for larger):
