Second, not so fast about Raimi and Maguire..

Los Angeles (E! Online) - Call it the battle of the contractual web weavers. Tobey Maguire's very interested in doing the next Spider-Man sequel, sure, and now there's word today that the deal is done. Not true at all, blab several top sources on the project, who say the news about Spidey 4—and maybe 5—is jumping the gun.

These film insiders insist that the Tobey sealed-up talk is "premature," though it does look like Maguire is headed toward putting on that sexy suit again. Tobe-doll made roughly $17 mil on the last flick alone, minimum, right? What idiot wouldn't for that kind of loot?

Here's how it's going down:

Maguire's very much into the gig and has done three flicks so far in the franchise that's made, what, 2 or 3 billion bucks worldwide? Yep. But as happened before, negotiations for Maguire's participation in the Sam Raimi series have been, uh, challenging. "He is not the pleasant person to deal with," insisted a knowledgeable contractual-type most familiar with Maguire's past Spidey goings-down.

Word, whether accurate or not, is being put out that Sony just might not be interested in retaining Mr. M's involvement, should he take too long in deciding if his poker-playing butt wants to stay with the Spidey family or not.

Then, wham! This silken-spun spittle today that Maguire's all scared and a "lock" on the pic. Not so, gab my blabbers. Also, sources at Sony confirmed Maguire is by no means a lock yet. Additionally, a rep for Sony screamed bloody spidey bites that the studio has never looked at another actor besides Maguire for the lead.

Too bad. Always wanted to see how Tobey bud Jake Gyllenhaal's ass would look in that getup, but then, that's another item, isn't it?

i think they used a not so hot looking actress like dunst to bring some consistency to the picture. Tobey isn't a fashion model looking actor and putting him next to someone extremely hot would have been kind of weird to see on screen. The Parker in the comics actually looks handsome and since Mary Jane is animated hot it doesnt look as awkward but in a real life film it would be weird to see a couple like Tobey and say Megan Fox. I still think her acting sucks and that Spiderman 3 was worse than rottentomato says. The most dissappointing thing is when a story with such great potential is mishandled and cant be redone for decades (Batman films).

Personally I would love to see more Spidey films, though no more dancing allowed :lecture :lol

I hope TM does come back, Spidey wouldnt be the same imo, I hate it when they re-cast lead characters.

Thanks Spider-man. You turned Sam into a total douche. (according to his cast and Danny Elfman).

Hopefully his new flick will get him back to his classic horror roots, and he'll chill out a bit. I can imagine how much stress would come from those flicks.....they look extreamly difficult.

Oh man,I had almost forgotten about the jazz club scene.

However, the movie did have some terrific casting that I won't overlook...Thomas Haden Church was perfect for Sandman and I think Bryce Dallas Howard was great as Gwen Stacy, she has a unique, sexy look to her that I don't see on many girls...and you can see why she was cast. I even think Topher Grace wasn't bad casting as an "anti-Peter Parker AND anti-Spidey" but it should've been either HIM or SANDMAN...NOT both.

I still think they should've cut the Sandman out and made this straight Venom. Maybe even have the Venom suit be an "experimental" Osborn suit developed by Norman (kind of like Ultimate Spidey) prior to moving onto his "Military Contract" (with the Goblin). The Venom suit is accidentally released by Harry when Harry is searching through an old Osborn lab when Harry is looking for another cache of Goblin weapons (or perhaps the new glider) being led by the spirit of his father (another cameo by DaFoe). The suit finds Spidey, being attracted by his enhanced DNA. We go into the whole symbiote thing (minus stupid jazz stuff and emo-kid Parker...have him just be more angry and such). He fights New Goblin (in the black suit) in a big epic battle before realizing how much the suit is corrupting him and we get the famous church bells scene....Eddie Brock is there, becomes Venom (who earlier in the movie was embaressed and fired from the DB similar to Spidey 3). The suit drives him insane practically, and we see Venom tearing the city up and killing people before he captures Mary Jane. Spidey searching for MJ fights New Goblin again and they stumble upon where Venom is keeping her. Venom completely overpowers Spidey (even biting him, basically think of a gorilla or some primate going ape-$***, just pounding on him) and this helps snap Harry out of it to help his friend. The fight stumbles BACK to the church where Spidey broke free from the suit. Venom snaps Harry's neck and drops him down the belltower (all the way down to the chapel below)...however this split-second and self-sacrifice gives Peter enough time to get the bell started and the sounds cause the suit to go into pain...more so than before...and we see Venom/Brock fall off the church tower. Shot of his body below and the quivering suit...we go back to the Harry death scene (MJ has finally arrived to witness the event). Some zooming out shots (including the spot where Brock's body was BUT he's NOT there) and we get a closing.

Damn...I could go on...so much about that movie could've been handled better. If they wanted a third villain maybe they could've had someone like the Shocker or something used as temporary mid-way villain that Brock's new story on helps contribute to his downfall.

I just hope these movies happen and can redeem the franchise, I'm sure Raimi himself even wants to do better.

For the moment I think it safe to leave this thread running here without merging.

This is new information and the old thread has fallen back as the last post was months ago so we may aswell take it from here with the new info on the Spider-Man Films.

I didn't mind the dancing so much, I can see myself doing something similar should my darker side ever emerge.

My main wish in Spidey 4/5 is that he actually takes on a vicious, evil villain. Since Green Goblin it's been "bad guys w/ hearts of gold".

Of all the things that were horribly bad about Spiderman 3, one of the worst for me was Peter Parker & Sandman crying to one another like schoolgirls at the end.

Gerard Butler as Kraven hunting down a CG Lizard and a TM Spidey. That's gold, baby!

If you've read the McFarlane "Spider-Man" arc called Torment Calypso controlled the Lizard and he was acting out of being controlled not out of being malicious but willed to do so. They've established Connors to be too much of a Spidey ally to begin him out an just villainous so this for me is the only obvious way to go and keep continuity.

That's actually pretty good because you've got all of your bases covered. As Mike said, they're probably going to have that "bad guy w/ heart of gold" going with the Lizard anyway b/c of the previous films---so Kraven's a perfectly sinister character to throw into the mix.:gun

If there's one thing I can ask for with SM4 and possibly SM5, it's that it goes back to ONE villian. Not that I minded SM3 and its villianous duo (or trio if you consider Spider-Man his own worst enemy,) but I'd rather see the focus get back to one villian. Spider-Man 2 was done brilliantly and that's the direction I'd love to see Spider-Man 4 go again.

I'm not a big fan of the multiple villains thing. The new Batman movies are the only ones I feel do it fairly well with one being a henchman to the other or the other being a minor act three villain.
