They did have the rights but that's not still the case. Part of the deal to allow Spider-Man into the Mcu and marvel studios to have creative control was that Sony reaquired most of those merchandise rights.

You're right. Apparently upon further research the agreement between Sony and Marvel is not to split the profits so Sony doesn't benefit from the usage of Spider-Man or his characters in Marvel Studios banner films and Marvel/Disney doesn't benefit from Sony's Spider-Man films despite deferring creative control to the Marvel Studios team, other than the licensing fees originally. So if essentially if the studios are allowing each other to do their own things and rake the profits it would make the exclusion of a Spider-Man figure from this line a little more interesting.

What would it mean if Hot Toys does not show the Civil War Spider-Man at SDCC?

In my opinion it would mean nothing. HT has already saturated the market with CW PO's and I think they want to leave the best (for most people depending on the companion figure) for last.

Yeah as much as I want Spidey I'm okay if we don't get him until Homecoming. There's a ton of stuff coming out of this year's SDCC that I want so some stuff I'm okay with waiting on for the moment.

Yes it is possible, if they have it, they may put it up today, but even if the figure isn't shown at all, it still doesn't mean anything in terms of release. Maybe the proto isn't ready for this con. HT attends another con next weekend and has a larger presence. Maybe he'll show up there.

Apart from the glaring black blotch behind the mask on mind, I agree it's a pitch perfect version of Spidey. But STILL NEED MORE!!

What con will HT be at next week?

Acghk. It's Ani-Con and Game Convention Hong Kong. It's in hot toys home market and partly sponsored by them. They are much more involved/interested whatever you wanna call it in that con then SDCC.

As for them out up any more or different items, really the only chance for that was between Wednesday and Thursday. As Wednesday was not technically the open of the con, but just a preview event. You only got passes for it if you had them for other days. Once Thursday started they don't want to put something out one day that won't be shown another day (unless there is a specific panel for the product, which gives people a specific day to target to attend the con in advance) so that people are not upset about missing something that others saw. It's a value for ticket type thing.

At next weekends event, and this is purely speculation or rumor, there is a chance that spider-man will be shown. They are planning to have a massive Civil War display. Including having a Giant-Man 1/6 display piece. The theme of the display will be the airport battle scene I have heard. And there's rumor that spidey will be included. But don't get your hopes to high.
