Hmmm...

I'm torn. I like the size of the SS one and the poles are better of course, but everything else I prefer the Hasbro one. I wish Sideshow had chosen a different material and gone with the vac-metal.

So the options to customize the Sideshow one are
1) repaint
2) gold leaf
3) recast in a different material that can be vac metalized.

Maybe some chrome spray paint would work? I've seen people use silver chrome spray paint to repaint Terminator endoskeletons to make them super shiny. Maybe there's a gold version of that as well.

Some of you guys are crazy... The Sideshow one is actually oversized, too. :banghead

Hasbro's kicks the living crap out of it. Sorry... not even close.

I'm not sure it's oversized as a whole -- as I look at it against some of the ref shots I've got -- but it is a bit squatty looking. Like some of the elements (i.e. angels) are either oversized or pumped up.

But the Hasbro ark is clearly too small.

Maybe some more compares with the Indy figure next to it rather than behind it will solve this issue.

It's funny. In the comparison shots, it looks as if they're meant to make the Sideshow Ark "look" better (beit on purpose or not) as the Hasbro Ark is in the background or a bit behind, etc. And yet, despite all the shots, the Hasbro Ark just looks better and more accurate. It's made glaringly more obvious by Wor-Gar's comparison pic of the movie prop. I can honestly say I never thought Sideshow would be upstaged by Hasbro, of all companies, and then, by a mail-away freebie at that. :(

Well it's.... disappointing. It looks like a funerary urn.

Now to cancel or not to cancel.

I dunno. I'm not convinced as to the proper size of the Ark. The Hasbro size might be a wee small but I think the SS one is too tall giving it a squarish, squat look instead of the more rectangular silhouette it should have. Looking at that prop reference pic, at first I thought it was a customized Hasbro Ark. So I think that reaction makes up my mind.

It's crazy that a $10 mailaway rivals or tops a $100 Polystone exclusive. I wouldn't have guessed Hasbro winning this one. I just wish they'd gone all the way and improve the poles & wrappings, but I can do that easy enough.

I like the sideshow one but it still lacks something IMO.

I don't think the Hasbro Ark is too small at all. Just compare it to the one in the film and also try and picture both of these within crates or that huge stone container in the Well of Souls. If Hasbro's is undersized, it isn't by much... and not nearly as much as Sideshow's is oversized.

Yeah looking at this pic, Indy could put his arms around it. The Ark isn't all that large.

Hasbro for the win methinks.

Well, that doesn't look as bad as I thougt it would be. I still think the Hasbro one is better but if I didn't have the Hasbro one I would be fine with Sideshows.

Would you prefer to open the Ark for Der Fuhrer in Berlin? To find out only then if you have obtained the one, true, Ark? :lol

I'm sticking with my original contention that Sideshow's Ark is more an artistic interpretation as opposed to a scaled replica...

As for the "future" idea...I'd avoid it. Slathering it on plastic armor is one thing, but putting it on paint...I'd test the underside first. I still think there's gonna be some very yellow troopers on some display shelves in the next couple of years from using that stuff...

As for the ark...I'm still on the fence. Gotta see more pictures....c'mon Wor-Gar! :)

<--- Also on the fence. No, actually, I just got off the fence. The decision was made as I typed the words. I'm canceling. Sigh.

Edit: Done. I wonder how many people checked "Issue with detail or quality of the finished product" on the final step of canceling their order.

It looks very chunky and boxy to me, I think I prefer the look of the Hasbro one.

Interesting to see in that Ark pic with the chick that that version is standing on the same squat "pineapples" as the SS version - so maybe they're not completely inaccurate to at least one of the versions floating around out there.
