If I was to cancel... IF, don't get excited... then I'd be out TOHT as well. That would be unacceptable.

But I'm not opposed to dumping the ark at this point. I want to like it, but it's very hard.

It was a tough decision for me, but y'all knew where I stood on this. Make changes or it was a no go. Besides the handle wraps it was the same as the proto. Definitely picking up Toht down the line.

While looking over the pics my 8 year old son come up behind me and said, "Dad, you know which one is the realest?" I asked which one and he points to the Hasbro version. Even an 8 year old knows the difference. I wish the Hasbro Ark had the pole arms set in the correct place. Sideshow amazingly has them in the right spot as they're not supposed to be centered.
All in all the Sideshow Ark isn't THAT bad but the lack of care to detail is so evident. It'll make a good showpiece for many and piss off the usual minority.

Might have to join the bandwagon and cancel. Iron Man Mark I is coming and I can't justify $170 for a Jumbo Ark.

After canceling, I moseyed on over to eBay.

Toht, regular edition, shipped for $93.00. Purchased.

Hasbro Ark, shipped for $69.90. Purchased.

From the photos I saw, the only thing Sideshow's Ark had going for it were the fabric-covered poles. The size, shape, lack of shine, and soft details killed it for me. And I'm usually one to overlook flaws.

Glad I stayed with the Hasbro. Can't justify the extra cost for something that looks 'ok'.

I tuned out for a while, but now that I'm back I finally get to see first hand accounts of the ark! And comparison shots with the Hasbro too!

Yes, the Hasbro wins. It looks better and closer to the real thing. Sideshow's looks too "soft" overall. Not just the matte gold, but the detail doesn't look as sharp and defined as the Hasbro ark.

Oh well. I'm still keeping it. I think it'll look great on display with Indy and the idol pedestal. It's disappointing, and too expensive. But I think I'll miss having it more than I'll be annoyed that it's not perfect.

The shape is pretty close... but that flat color really makes it hard to notice the positive. Still, it matches the source in shape as it should.

This must be a first for Sideshow to go from nearly sold out to overstocked. Second Chance, Gift Card eligible and finally Film Food and Figure Friday and Newsletter giveaways. These Arks will be gathering dust in the Sideshow warehouse. But don't worry, they've got "top men" working on it. :lol

I wonder if I can return the ark to SS and keep Toht... tell 'em I'm "not satisfied". With sales as they are, they may actually go for it just so they can sell me the Toht.

I have a $50 gift card and I'd use it on this.

It's funny. In the comparison shots, it looks as if they're meant to make the Sideshow Ark "look" better (beit on purpose or not) as the Hasbro Ark is in the background or a bit behind, etc. And yet, despite all the shots, the Hasbro Ark just looks better and more accurate. It's made glaringly more obvious by Wor-Gar's comparison pic of the movie prop. I can honestly say I never thought Sideshow would be upstaged by Hasbro, of all companies, and then, by a mail-away freebie at that. :(

It wasn't on purpose. I tried to line them up in the middle and not get the poles intertwined. Also, it's not in the background, it's THAT much smaller than the SS.

I think the Hasbro ark looks better also. Sideshow's great with human sculpts and portraits, but Hasbro has more experience with inanimate objects. They create sculpts and tooling for spaceships, cars, trucks, robots and all kind of toys! Heck, if you've seen their Big Millennium Falcon you know what I'm talking about. If they can miniaturize that they can definitely create a more-accurate looking ark. That being said, if the SS one could be vac-metalized or gold leafed it may make all the difference. It feels great and definitely looks like a high-end collectible but is sadly missing the "shine".

bmarz, you still out there? Curious to read your full review... and see how your Toht is.

Yeah man, I'm still here. To be totally honest, there's nothing to add. Toht is awesome (in my opinion). Glad to have him. Nice tight Pro and the glasses aren't as bad as people say.

Ark is what people say it is. Some like it, most don't. I don't disagree with one single criticism. It's not sculpted accurately and the finish is lacking. On the plus side, it feels like a high-end collectible! Next to Hasbro, it makes the latter look like a toy (albeit a more accurate sculpt). If it had the "shine", people might be more lenient with the sculpt. Hopefully someone more adventurous than me will do some experimentation with gold leaf, paint, wax, etc.

In all, I am glad I've decided to keep it. I am a completist though when it comes to Sideshow Indy (especially Raiders) so it goes without saying. Is it worth $90? Probably not. But it's worth as much as the Idol Pedestal and the mini environments that are coming. Unfortunately for SS, Hasbro flexed their "toy giant" muscle and showed them what they could do when they wanted to. Good for them and great for those of us lucky to have one.

Well said.

And I'm glad you like your Toht. I can't wait for mine needless to say. The ark, well, whachagonnado? I do hope someone figures out a good, easy way to give it some shine.

Why is it that those chrome-like sprays out there won't work? Is it that the paint won't adhere to the painted polystone -- peeling?

Once primed, I don't see why it wouldn't stick. I'm just too chicken to find out...
