<--- Also on the fence. No, actually, I just got off the fence. The decision was made as I typed the words. I'm canceling. Sigh.

Edit: Done. I wonder how many people checked "Issue with detail or quality of the finished product" on the final step of canceling their order.
If I was to cancel... IF, don't get excited... then I'd be out TOHT as well. That would be unacceptable.
But I'm not opposed to dumping the ark at this point. I want to like it, but it's very hard.
This must be a first for Sideshow to go from nearly sold out to overstocked. Second Chance, Gift Card eligible and finally Film Food and Figure Friday and Newsletter giveaways. These Arks will be gathering dust in the Sideshow warehouse. But don't worry, they've got "top men" working on it.
It wasn't on purpose. I tried to line them up in the middle and not get the poles intertwined. Also, it's not in the background, it's THAT much smaller than the SS.
I think the Hasbro ark looks better also. Sideshow's great with human sculpts and portraits, but Hasbro has more experience with inanimate objects. They create sculpts and tooling for spaceships, cars, trucks, robots and all kind of toys! Heck, if you've seen their Big Millennium Falcon you know what I'm talking about. If they can miniaturize that they can definitely
create a more-accurate looking ark. That being said, if the SS one could be vac-metalized or gold leafed it may make all the difference. It feels great and definitely looks like a high-end collectible but is sadly missing the "shine".
Yeah, it doesn't look bad, but it's not worth $90-plus. If another version wasn't floating around out there for comparisons, Sideshow's version would probably be more forgiving.
The real question is if a shinier gold leaf paint does adhere to primed polystone why didn't they use it?
Cost most likely.
It must be something with the polystone. Isn't the idol that came with the idol base and Belloq made of polystone? Because that one was the matte gold, and the idol that came with Indy (and not polystone) was shiny.
I believe the base idol is metal and the Indy idol is plastic.
I would think one could gold/brass plate anything!
Hello Sideshow Team,
I am eagerly awaiting my Toht Exclusive with the polystone Ark of the Covenant. I am curious about one aspect of the ark: why did you choose to make the finish matte instead of shiny? Was it something to do with the manufacturing of the piece, or cost, or was it a personal preference?
I can't wait to get it!
I think the problem is that Sideshow couldn't just release a "more accurate" plastic Ark. They had to make it polystone because Sideshow is high-end, that's what I was getting at with price points. They could've put that same Ark out in plastic, charged $30 for it, but then people would've said "Man, this looks like something Hasbro would release". Of course, it is a bit of a lose-lose situation. On the other hand, the Hasbro Ark does look better, soooooo. . .
