For me it's going to be simple, whoever makes 1/4 scale figures, either mixed media or fully sculpted statues and whoever makes Legendary Scale or 1:1 Busts will get my business.

1/4 scale mixed media figures will probably go to Sideshow, but will Weta do any 1/4 scale fully sculpted figures? That could make our purchasing decisions even more difficult.

As far as the busts, I'd bet that Sideshow gets the LS license, but I'll be surprised if we see any 1:1 scale busts from the Hobbit line (except maybe Smaug ;)).

Obviously I'd like to see another Sideshow/WETA partnership with a wide range of pieces, much like with LOTR. But I really don't see that happening. I agree that the license will be distributed among several companies to produce a variety of merchandise. For me, I want full-scale poly statues, something I'd rather see WETA do than Sideshow honestly, if no partnership will take place. I would support Sideshow, however, if they produced a PF line. Other types of collectibles from LS busts to 1/6 figures, and even dios, I have no interest in.

I won't get too many PF's from it if they are made. My focus will be on any Dio's and 1:6th figures with a few busts from say GG mixed in. I'll of course get some statues but I will be as picky with them as I am with my SSW collection.

This is my opinion - Weta to get the rights to make polystone statues, busts and environments, and Sideshow to get the rights for figures and PF's and maybe big busts and dio's

WETA has to get the license. Their LOTR line is still the best line ever produced. I really think they put SS on the map. It would be great to see SS team up with them again, But if not WETA all the way. With all the new LOTR stuff out WETA is still the best, can't wait.

I think the Narnia statues are only cheap because they aren't selling. The SRPs were comparable to the SS/W pieces when they first came out.

And Weta did do fully sculpted 1/4 scale with 2 of the Superman statues, but they didn't sell. Of course they let Bryan Singer pick the subjects for those and they weren't anything people wanted (the Returning Son and Luthor Triumphant were both nearly 1/4 scale).

Wasn't it Gino Acevedo's connection with SS folks that got SS the LOTR license? Now that Weta has struck out on their own, I'm not sure if the quality and packaging of the statues were the same quality as the SS/W joint venture. I've seen the quality of Kong, Narnia, and other Weta only merchandise, and I'm not sure if they have the same feel and heft as the SS/W stuff.

I had a bunch of the Weta Narnia and Kong stuff and it was just as good as any of the LOTR Sideshow Weta poly.

Bah, maybe I'll chalk it up to an emotional connection to LOTR compared to Narnia or Kong. I too own a Kong and 2 Narnia sculpts . . .but somehow they weren't as beautiful as a Stone Trolls, Balrog or Cave Troll. Maybe also because the thrill of the hunt wasn't there either.

It's too bad we're not neighbours, you could collect the dio's and 12" and I could collect the LS Busts and 1/4 Scale. It would be perfect. :idea Well perfect if the neighbour on the other side had the whole Weta collection. :lol

... and the guy across the street the entire UC Collection, and his neighbour the entire Toybiz collection, and the other neighbour the entire AOME collection, and the the guy down the street the entire Games Workshop collection... :wacky

The Hellgate:London stuff is awesome as well. Weta does fantastic work. I also agree Weta (ie. LotR) put Sideshow on the map. It was a good partnership at the time for both and Sideshow has grown a lot since then and their work is second to none. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either. I just hope the license for the stuff I like doesn't go to GG or McFarlane or Neca. With all due respect, their stuff is very very nice but it's a notch below the stuff Weta and Sideshow do. At least from what I have seen.

The LotR Weta line to me is still the "definitive" line of LotR collectibles. And, for me its only fitting that Weta would do Hobbit collectibles.

The qualtiy and detail on some of the Narnia pieces is incredible. Its like anything else the more the artists work on it, the better they get.

I have always wanted a Smaug polystone statue. I believe I am on record as saying (at the LOTR Guide forums) a few years ago, I'd spend $500 on Smaug, if thats what it took.

I'd still like to see other companies do products as well. But, if Weta doesn't do anything for the Hobbits movie, I'll be disappointed.

Yes, I remember that! :lol I think there were a lot of us there who felt the same way (except I never thought it would really be $500 back then, but now it just might be...).

A collectors' collective?

Exactly! I vote we all move into a Sideshow Freaks gated community. I volunteer to be community president for the first term. Make sure you all keep your grass cut, your yards nice and tidy and don't leave any mess on your driveways otherwise it'll be like that one episode of X-Files where that creature is summoned in the planned community to eliminate unruly homeowners. :lol

I hope SSC/HT is developing a good dwarf body. Short but broader and thicker. Obviously the problem is the same as the Nazgul. How many people would actually buy all 13 dwarves? But SW has Ugnaughts and Cantina aliens to get some more use of the body.

:rotfl :rotfl

WETA's collectibles are fantastic. The quality and detail are top notch. They just carry licenses I have no interest in buying, unfortunately. But it would only take The Hobbit for me to be back on board.
