This forum and this thread in particular is full of people who equate cost, discounts on SSC, points off a purchase etc. with how they view/judge the product. It's perfectly normal, logical and expected.

"I only paid .... for it so..." "Got it cheap, won't complain" "used my points on it, so I don't care" yada, yada.

So how can getting an item for free not effect your view of the product? It's an instant win win situation.

And that's without any pressure (real or perceived) from the sponser to speak positively and not trash an item, even if you subjectively think it is.

Anyway, we obviously at poles apart on this topic.

Yes, and for the record, since I already said it once a few pages back; I'm not saying SS should put negative comments on their site. I said they use to post just about all comments on their site; positive AND the criticism (notice I didn't use the word "negative" that was purposeful BTW). They most certainly do not post criticisms on their site anymore. My whole point was to say that a SS sponsored review, considering their attitude toward open criticism of their product, is probably going to lean on the "this is a great piece, so go out and get it," side of things. THAT....WAS..... ALL..... I..... SAID. Again, understanding that their position makes sense.

I don't believe they're screwing anything up. They're basically taking the cyberverse figurs and upscaling them to deluxe size. We're still getting the other figures still. They just wanted to make bigger figures with a easier design to appeal to kids more. I think it's a good move.

I didn't say that, i said it can hurt my business. It can because Asian toy makers are a very "honorable" group. They take it personally if you "trash" something they make and will refuse to do business with a reviewer in the future. I've been blacklisted by several 3rd party transformer toy makers. Nothing official, but it still puts a dent into things. I can still buy stuff from other sources but they won't be provided to me as review samples. For them, it's a different sort of culture. As i said, if you dislike something they work hard to make, they find it offensive. If that happens, it can hurt business for me. Which is why i choose to not put the review out...IF i'm provided with a figure. If i'm paying for it, i don't care what they think, i'm putting out my review.

I like optibotimus' review. Made this figure look better and look like fun to pose. I kind of wish they didn't include the chairs and it was $30 or so cheaper, but oh well.

SS is required to include things like that with yoda. If you notice both yoda PFs, he's with someone (PT with 501 Trooper, OT Yoda with Luke). There's some kind of restriction with only releasing yoda by himself from what I've heard from SS, just don't recall the exact specifics

This may not change my mind on a figure, but, I agree, it would definitely make my scrutiny of said figure go down.

I've said it before, I look at a 400 buck piece alot harder than I look at a 90 buck clone out of the box, so I'm sure if I got something shipped to me for free I'd look at it in a different light. Would it make me love something I hate? Doubt it.
