Sorry - I need to reply...no one scared me off. I'm not here to defend the work, just to offer clarity during a quick break I had.
Sallah - I'm a big fan of KISS and New Orleans - how'd you guess?
Groovy- it's not the Superman body. I wouldn't recommend putting this suit on that body but since you have cut/sew skills - I look forward to seeing your kitbash later this year. I hope you weather any criticism of your custom work and effort.
ArmyMedic - sorry man, hopefully you will like what comes after GL.
Darth- Points taken. We have to consider figures based on how many we expect to sell. Nightwing seems to come up a lot so it doesn't fall on deaf ears. No promises though.
I'm now out though, I have to go find this factory that makes figures we can sell at $150.00.
Not to be rude, or trying to start trouble or mean, or cruel, or showing I have no social skills or whatever I will get for this post.... It is just a "my honest opinion post" from a collector of many different toys from price points of $10 (the 3 3/4 star wars as you mentioned) to $20 WWE Elite figures to SSC and Hot Toys 1/6th scale. So here it goes...
I think it was a waste of time to have the lantern light up. Was it because SSC did not want to make any more constructs and just said "lets put a light in it, that'll do" or was it because you genuinely thought it would be cool? The DC Classics Lantern vs Sinestro toysrus exclusive two pack, it was like what $35 or less, that included six constructs. Sure they are for a figure half the size of this one but I find it hard to believe that Mattel can offer six constructs two figures but for $220 SSC can offer only one figure and one construct....
What a horrible choice of attire. I mean, you say we can not appeal to everyone, but like, what is this? It looks like a eight year old bedazzled the suit. This is not even a classic attire. Superman is classic.... Batman is classic.... Joker is classic.... Harley Quinn is classic.... this is not. SSC makes five figures from this line in there classic attire and it is like a Green Lantern fanboy who works for SSC decided he wanted this attire instead of the best interest of the fans it was in there own best interest. Like what happened with this. SSC could have has the potential to create a epic Justice League display and they blew it, absolutely blew it with this release. It makes no sense whatsoever, you can not really defend it... A lapse in creative direction maybe? A HUGE LAPSE? Like, this figure, coupled with the previous releases of the classic attires in which SSC made it seem as the approach was for a classic 1/6 figure line, may just be the biggest disappointment, worst executed figure I have ever seen from the dozens of line I collect.
Another point. Did any real comic fans work on this figure? WWE Mattel lead designer is a HUGE fan, loves wrestling, and it shows in his designs for the figures and the fan reaction from them. This figure shows none of that.
No second head, yet a increase in price and it is justified by a fist and a light up lantern. Batman came with batarangs and a grapple gun. Harley a mallet, gun, knife, brass knuckles. Yet Green Lantern comes with a fist, a light up lantern and costs $20 to $30 more with no second head sculpt. Looked like SSC was hungry for more money.
Now about the "I have to go find a factory that makes figures we can sell at $150.00" Come on man..... come on...... You know you can, you know you can. Problem is it would cut into SSC bottom line, would not fill everyone's pocket with enough cash. There are many other companies that make figures for $150 or less and are far far far better than this attempt at a figure for nearly 1/3 of the price. During the Spook sales when everything is discounted Hot Toys and SSC still make money, just showing the mark up on these. Robin from the 1966 series was $128 with like $30 back in rewards. Great deal, I bought it and a lot more during the Spook sales. Basically it was selling it at $100. Hot Toys could do it... but SSC can't sell a figure at $150??? That is not even the point though. The point is that this figure is not worth $220, not even $150 to me.
You could have sold this figure at $250, with two sculpts, multiple constructs, and a classic attire with the same choice of fabric from Bats and Sups and sure people would have complained about the price, but you know what? People would have bought that figure than the one that was sadly put out. I would have bought two, no lie. Would need to make a John Stewart custom.
SSC has been extremely disappointing over the last year or so. Whether it was the terrible General Grievous 1/6th figure that felt like a cheap knockoff from some off brand company, to the cheaply made overly priced Battle Droids, to the quality of the clones, to now this..... not sure how I can keep buying things from SSC when all it comes down to is cheap plastic, terrible choices, and overly priced figures.
Such potential in this DC line..... wasted.
Lets hope the Marvel SSC line does not turn into this.
