I just asked about recent movements in the waitlist. I got more or less the same reaction I just got from you but without the insight.
Thanks for that.
Anyone else?
Thx.
To follow up on this, my waitlist position converted and finally pre-ordered.
I will be selling this figure's boots, because I will put together real leather boots.
I know original boots included in the figure will be state of the art in terms of sculpting & weathering, looking more realistic an to scale that leather will ever do, but I like multimedia.

This should be realising pretty soon. If anyone want my boots, please PM me.

Thanks everyone for your counseling btw.

Last but not least, I just realised Sideshow got the color of the holster belt wrong. It is tan, not black.
Had any of you already caught this one?
Any possibility of fixing that mistake if we told Sideshow? (No one has yet?)

LMK
Thx

I know it’s sideshow and not hot toys, but I’m surprised more people aren’t excited for these. Personally, I can’t wait. I’ve been hoping for cantina aliens forever and I regrettably skipped previous sideshow aliens. Hopefully they follow through with Jabbas palace crew.

I’m excited! The OT is still my favorite to collect. I thought they mentioned they had the Bib Fortuna prototype months ago on a stream.

They need to keep doing OT aliens. Maybe I’m wrong, but I feel like Ackbar or Nien Nunb would be like printing money for Sideshow.

I’m looking forward to these as well. But I might say cautiously optimistic more than anything considering how hit or miss Sideshow figures turn out in production. Also I think it’s a big letdown for all the outfits to be so clean considering the prices SS is asking.

So true. SSC is disappointing most of the times, w/ brilliant exceptions. These figures are delivered half done.

Because prices on these ones are insultingly high. SSC really is fleecing us, elderly OT fans.

Thx

I’m 43 and honestly it blows my mind that the OT isn’t still considered, by far, the de facto most popular version of Star Wars. Could you imagine the Jackson LOTR films ever not being considered the most popular version of LOTR, no matter what other films or shows get made in the future? Or the Harry Potter films ever not being considered the most popular version of Harry Potter? I guess it’s all inevitable but still, hard to imagine.

I love the idea of these figures. Just not for the price and Sideshow’s general quality.

I mean they’re characters that we see so briefly, come with little to no accessories, and are priced higher than some Hot Toys figures of more important/well done characters.

I might see if any of these hit discount prices eventually, and might get at least Greedo but just not a huge priority. It’s unfortunate because I would like them but I’m not that much of a sucker for OT nostalgia anymore.

If HT did this guy I could see them doing a second damaged jacket and severed arm. That's the set up I'd go for. A nice cantina floor base with wall back drop would have been nice too.

Exactly. Sideshow gives you an extra pair of hands, which aren’t even just standard to the figure but a bs exclusive.

At the least this should have come with the cut off arm. I realize it would have been a bit more effort to include a separate jacket but for he price I don’t see why not.

Plus we all know they’ll just reuse their cheap black hexagon base that essentially comes with every figure they’ve released for the past ten plus years.

Hot Toys reuses things too, but at least their bases have some sculpt and paint work.

When it comes down to it, SSC is the only ones who will ever make these figs, so while we all might like a more ideal release: accessories, bases, etc, I'd much rather have the figure be released at all over not being released. Hot Toys will never make these figures, nor do I see any other company stepping up to do them.

That’s where they get some collectors though. Being the only choice so they exploit fans with a high price tag and little to no accessories or things they deem accessories are “exclusive”.

But I mean, it's take it or leave it kind of stuff when you get to this level, when only one retailer is choosing to make something. OT aliens and droids have, sadly, become a niche of a niche. Forget the accessories, the figures themselves are exclusives at this point. It's not as if SSC has somehow blocked other retailers from making these in order to gouge customers, they're the only ones willing to do it. So they can charge whatever they like and the consumer will decide if the line is a failure or not.

I don't want to make it seem like I'm just bursting with joy at the thought of paying $300+ for any figure, believe me I ain't, but when a collector like me, who would rather have any OT weirdo over the endless line of forgettable Ashoka/Mando/etc characters, I'm going to have to pay for it and I know it.

I feel the exact same way about the OT, but it is a reality. We are a dwindling fan base. Most OT fans and collectors I know jumped ship after the Disney trilogy. They just lost interest. Most people who are able to buy these now are PT/Cw fans, it seems. In my own home, my son who still loves Star Wars loves revenge of the sith the most and clone wars. He likes the ot but anakin and kenobi are his favorite characters. My other son lost all interest after he watched han get murdered like garbage.

I'm not so sure about that. HT making the TIE Pilot at the relatively low price they did, makes me think the Cantina aliens are not off the table.

Hot Toys has been pulling out more surprises recently. I don’t think they’d do cantina characters though. Maybe but seems a little outside their wheelhouse.

This is pretty much what happened in my experience as well. The people who loved the OT, regardless of age, essentially just gave up or moved on from Star Wars by the end of the Disney sequels. I think SW has alienated a huge chunk of it's core, and all that is left is a few die-hard OT fans in a corner and the majority of who is left are the people who thought the prequel era and beyond were great. They feel like the majority, but it's really only the majority of the now hollowed out fanbase.

A TIE Pilot is an OT Imperial trooper, which nearly never doesn't sell well for HT.

The only cantina creatures I could see HT doing - without strong new appearances in a Disney+ series (think R5-D4) - is the "big four" of Greedo, Walrusman, Hammerhead and Snaggletooth. But realistically only Greedo because of his direct connection to Han and fan love - the other three are far more niche.

It's true HT did a Jawa and a Tusken, technically creatures, but they are in the top tier (12 back) of the OT pantheon and importantly had huge exposure in Disney+ series.

HT does work in mysterious ways but the reality is HT cantina aliens are a super long shot with SSC now doing them, even if we'd all rather have had it be HT.

The Tuskens and Jawas were only produced because of the Mandalorian. Same with the Dewback. And the Tuskens were specifically the Mando designs. The only way HT makes like Ponda or Hammerhead is if they feature prominently in some new Disney project, and even then, HT will produce the inferior Disney design to the original. For a while I was terrified HT would finally do a Gamorrean, but it wold be the Book of Boba Fett monstrosities.

Even their first instinct when producing the Super Battle Droid was the ugly Mando version. Only the fan confusion/backlash and the AOTC anniversary saved the droid release and HT changed it to the original.

And that Tusken and Jawa (gonk droid as well) were two/three of the worst 1/6 SW figures I've ever seen.

This is a conversation that goes way back - people assuming if it's HT its going to epic, when the reality is their latest, the TIE pilot and its meh effort It goes back to the very start, with middling likenesses on Luke, Han and Ben, the endless meh attempts with helmets for Vader (until ROTJ this year,) Fett and stormtrooper.

So the idea that a SSC Greedo would s*ck and a HT Greedo would be a 10/10 is just really not supported by the facts. And I'm in no way disagreeing with the consensus on here re Sideshow.
