Re: Stallone`s new movie "The Expendables"

Great line up of actors but I think personally that its a case of too many cooks.
Might go to the cinema to see this but am not expecting to be blown away.
Stallone and the rest are too old to be doing this now.
It's like watching muhammed ali get his brains bashed in.
Sometimes it's best to quit while your ahead and bow out gracefully.

Mickey rourke gets better with age though love that beat up tramp;)

obviously you haven't seen pics of sly or anybody else recently

Specifically, Stallone laments the rubber muscle suits that caused the decline of the action hero.

I don't particularly agree with that. There have been many many male actors since Batman in lead roles who've gotten ripped and packed on some serious muscle for a superhero or action movie role. I can only think of a few, but there's Christian Bale, Ryan Reynolds, Ed Norton, Vin Diesel, etc etc.

Sure, they not be as gigantic as Stallone or Arnold was in their movie prime, but those guys were body builders.

Re: Stallone`s new movie "The Expendables"

I didn't take that as Stallone saying it was necessarily a bad thing, just that Batman was a movie that changed the public view of what a heroic male could look like, and not that it wiped out the muscle men entirely, but that it opened up a new age where someone as scrawny as Toby McGuire could be a hero.

It's true, 80s, from cartoons too movies, was all about heroic men being all super jacked up and muscly and huge, then the 90s started a change, and while you still get the Rock and some guys like that doing movies, they're still not the over-testosterone filled type movies that you got in the 80s.

I like both styles of hero, I'd love to see a balance of both, I don't like 1 more than the other but I'm glad this movie is bringing back the macho man style, I find it entertaining and Hollywood's lacked that sort of fun for years.

Re: Stallone`s new movie "The Expendables"

I really like Stallone movies, but for awhile in his 90s career :yuck

Seen the trailer they all look old to me and a bit past it.

Don't get me wrong I love sly for the rocky and rambo films same with bruce willis in the die hard films and arnie in the terminator 1 and 2.

Just think they are like old prostitues beat up and used up but still selling their worn out pohnahnee cus they can't do anything else except open up crass diners and run for mayor:)

Jason staetham is a fool and so is jet li, mickey boy is the only one I respect as his film the wrestler was class.

If stallone is upset that he aint the king of the hill when it comes to action films its just sour grapes nothing stays the same and he is just a relic.
Respect due to him but enough now he should let it go:)

Yeah all cgi'd :)

Ok he's got a good bod for his age and the film might be ok, but sounds like an old a-team plot and is what it is, an old fashioned testosterone fuelled buddy film.
Nothing wroing with that I suppose

Just a bit out dated I think and would rather see stallone mature and do something else, theatre for an example maybe do some shakespeare, what are your thoughts?

No, not CGI, HGH .. .

It's a throwback movie to 80's action. If you aren't a fan of them, this isn't the movie for you.

Yup,it's nothing more than that,it is what it is and i think most people love it,call it a tribute to the old 80's action flicks...

A real shame Kurt Russel turned down the role Statham got,i loved watching them together in Tango and Cash and it would sure as hell lift this movie alot with them together again.

Yup, this movie is like a continuation of the Rocky Balboa message, ain't nothin' over til it's over. Stallone and most of these guys made their names in these sorts of movies, I'd imagine in some ways seeing the action starts of today and the movies feels like being an old sports star watching the game you loved playing change and wanting to take one more shot. Stallone has the resources to take one more shot, so he put together a movie that basically says, we're not dead yet and we still love doing this stuff.

I like it, it's refreshing that, in a Hollywood obsessed with remakes and umpteen movies about the same subject when one succeeds, we're getting a movie that doesn't really care about being a big smash hit, it's just something the production team wanted to do and felt passionate about. Hollywood feels so stale lately, like people just look for the easy route to success and only go for that and aren't willing to take a shot on something just because they believe in it, and not care if it's not the next Dark Knight or Avatar. I know movies have always been about the money they get back on return, but it just feels like that's such an obession now, the filmmakers, not just the studios, are getting in this mindset of coming up with ideas that cash in on what's hot now or was hot in it's day instead of just being creative.

Re: Stallone`s new movie "The Expendables"

So I just watched episode 2 of the behind the scenes, some, if not all, of the core soldiers of the army in this movie are Brazillian MMA fighters, talk about pumping testosterone into this movie, poor little Jet Li doesn't quite fit :lol

Re: Stallone`s new movie "The Expendables"

:rotfl I just watched the clip at the end of the yahoo article, "whats that" "Im gettin a text" :rotfl

Re: Stallone`s new movie "The Expendables"

Yeah, that part was in one of the bootleg trailers, I hope it's in the movie, I laughed. I really love how natural the relationship between Statham and Stallone seems to be from the trailers, it feels like they've known each other a long time.

Re: Stallone`s new movie "The Expendables"

I was just joking about his size, which they even do in the movie :lol

Re: Stallone`s new movie "The Expendables"

:rotfl I bet! he's tiny fella! Why would they put him next to dolph in the posters?! :rotfl
