I watched it at the beginning. They do share some cool behind-the-scenes insights, but you can catch most of those on TrekMovie.com's writeups on Monday mornings. Personally, I stopped watching because I find the host very annoying. Reminds me of that annoying Bing Bong character from Inside Out, if you've seen it.

Eurgh. Well, I'll give at least one episode a try to see if I can tolerate him.

Y'know, I just realized, there aren't any Discovery Funko Pops yet, are there?

Aside from Anovos and some pins and T-shirts, I don't think there's any toy-related Discovery releases yet? Still waiting on McFarlane's line that's supposedly "coming soon." Though I won't hold my breath that they're anything decent.

Wow. Here I just assumed there would be some, because Funko pumps out Pops for eeeeverything. And then some.

What gives? This is a TREK series. Gimmie my toys. :rotfl

McFarlane sure missed any hype train here. They announced the license last May and had zero product out for the whole duration of the season. Supposedly they're making Burnham and T'Kuvma, yet no prototypes have been seen yet. Also, they have announced Spock to go with Kirk, supposedly to be at Toyfair.

This show is a mess. They need one strong-willed show runner that is going to put the hammer down on the constant needless name-dropping and lame connections to original Trek that don't go anywhere and keep this show in an endless spin of committee decrees and executive producer hell.

As much as I am not a JJ fan, one thing he got "right" was just creating their own timeline with the re-boot movies - they never really took advantage of that, but this show could have.

Just image how cool it would have been if in the finale....

Mirror Georgiou was successful in setting off the "bomb" in Q'onos,,shattering the Klingon Empire and robbing the Federation of it's moral high-ground by committing genocide. The Discovery is off on the run, exploring new worlds while outrunning the chaos created by the events that coiuld've been. Now THAT would be an interesting direction and "reset" for this show...

..not the half-baked, half-hearted group-hug star fleet re-set moment that sucked the life out of this and rendered every moment of this season pointless. And that final bit of fan-wank right at the end. Ugh.

Wanted to like this - wanted to have some new "Trek" to enjoy - the first season of this ain't exactly it.

Regarding the finale...which I just finished...

I know that they don't have to abide by time constraints per se, but they have kept each episode to a certain length. Does anyone else feel like L'Rell and the bomb needed more of a payoff? Some scenes shared between her and Burnham where they begin to understand each other or develop a respect or something that leads to that point. It just doesn't feel like we were owed that ending...it came far too abruptly. Cut some of the useless fluff amongst the Orions, or the silly medal ceremony, and devote more time to the buildup so the payoff fits.

Don't get me wrong, though, I like the way they ended it. It makes sense for Georgiou's character to try something like this; It makes sense for Cornwell and Sarek, at the end of their ropes, to abide by it; makes sense that Burnham would stand against it in a redemption moment, and her crew would support her; and it makes sense that L'Rell would use the power given to her to try and fulfill T'Kuvma's wishes. It just doesn't feel like the buildup was enough to support the payoff...I'm not explaining myself well, I think. But it felt like L'Rell pretty much disappeared into the dungeon like 5 episodes ago and was basically forgotten until just now. Tyler got a payoff. Burnham got one. But L'Rell needed more to get hers.

Also, regarding the ending...

Wonder who the new captain is going to be? I don't think the writers know yet. I bet that this Enterprise-in-peril story ark will take enough time that they'll never actually end up going to Vulcan. Assuming that the events of "The Cage" already happened, it's possible we'll see "Number One" take command, or maybe Saru will end up Captain after all, or heck, maybe Prime Lorca will show up!

As far as the design of the Enterprise, I love it. Did anyone else notice that the nacelles were totally reminiscent of Enterprise? They look identical. It's totally plausible that this Enterprise could be refitted into the one we know, and the design callbacks to past ships make it make sense in the timeline too. Love it! Wish the awful JJ-prise would've looked more like that.

Seems a bit early in this show's existence to already be calling in the Enterprise. It did look very cool though, much better than the Abrams movie abomination.

I wonder if they'll get Bruce Greenwood and Zachary Quinto for Pike and Spock....

I thought the show was much better in the 2nd half of the season, but that finale was pretty mediocre. They could stand to make some changes. Personally, I'd replace Michael with another main character. New POV each season, and Saru should be the new captain

Odds are they have another actor play Pike as he's suppose to be a lot younger in this time period, I doubt Spock has joined Star Fleet yet... As for the looks of the Enterprise, this is not the same enterprise as the one in JJ Abrams movie, that one was being built when Kirk went into Starfleet Academy.

The Cage has already happened/is about to happen at this point, the timelines are that close. There's already been a (canon) novel set a few years before the battle at the binary stars and the enterprise is in that, and Pike, Spock and number one are all present and correct.

Yeah, and it doesn't hurt that Burnham's explanation of her childhood trauma is very close to how it was relayed in that book as well, so the show and books are at least trying to fit together. I doubt they'd do anything to really hurt the tie-in market after building it up so much.

Someone posted on another board that they think we'll never see anyone from the Enterprise, that something weird is going on with them and that's why the message was all garbled, and they'll beam over to an empty ship or it will be uninhabitable or some such nonsense to prevent us from seeing more than just a tease. I hope they're wrong, I'd really hate to have that build up into nothing.

I gotta admit, this may not be designed to fit cannon, but this looks great:

How anyone could prefer the Abrams reboot Enterprise to what they just displayed in Discovery is mindboggling to me. The stupid fat nacelles, the way they're so damn close to the saucer section, the forward area of the main body jutting out so much..I just...I don't understand...

Well, not everyone agrees on everything. I think he prefers the smoother hull and lighter more uniform coloring of the JJprise for how it matches traditional ST ships. The darker appearance of the STD Enterprise makes it look much more aggressive. I still refer the STD version myself.

I just finished watching the finale and it solves two problems (for me anyway). 1 - It's a reboot. And that's ok. I'm done trying to reconcile this with anything before. It's a third universe. 2 - That Enterprise is a sh-t ton prettier than the JJ version. It's not even close. It's much more faithful to the classic profile and appearance while doing some updates that place it on this show.

Biggest mistake was having it share the screen with the Discovery which doesn't hold a candle to it.
