Shaw is kinda like the starfleet version of the Cardassian Damar (sp) who also had a redemptive arc

and death. He was an interesting character. I think Seven of Nine even liked him in the end.

Speaking of Seven - what's she gonna be called - Captain Seven? Captain Of Nine? Either way sounds silly. I think Shaw had a point getting her to use her normal human name :lol

Last scattershot thought - will they really be able to run the Enterprise D with literally only the Bridge crew and I guess Geordi by himself in engineering? The answer will presumably be yes but how plausible is that

LaForge dropped a quick line about drones getting the warp drive on line and power up. I’m assuming those same drones will fill whatever critical needs are necessary

Yeah I've been wondering about that too. They're really going to take an entire Galaxy Class starship into battle against the Borg and Starfleet with only 7 crew members (2 of which don't do much except sit on the bridge and look concerned)?? Even though we clearly saw in BOBW just how much preparation and how many busy crewmembers something like that required?

And we're to believe that Geordi not only spent the last 20 years fixing up the ship but also preparing it for battle with a bunch of drones and automated systems that could allow everything to be run from the bridge? Um sure, whatever you say. ;)

It was one thing when I thought we might just see the ship on display in the museum at the end of the season, but having them actually take it out again to save the day kinda stretches credibility to the breaking point, I hate to say.

I think the ship could always be operated via verbal command interface with the main computer. It’s when you start taking damage that you’re in trouble - not enough personnel to triage.

It’s reasonable to assume the fleet museum is equipped with industrial replicators and that’s probably where/how they’re arming the Enterprise with ammunition (torpedos).

Really looking forward to seeing how this all ends.

They could’ve given us a little more to go off on with the E as well, I guess Worf took command upon Picard leaving.

I wonder when we'll get the latest Ready Room episode. I'm just dying to see the behind the scenes for all of that.

Edit: Never mind, just saw Wil's twitter post saying it's been delayed until Saturday to help prevent spoilers.

I watched the episode for the fourth time now.

IMO this whole series so far is fan service done right.

It’s not pandering. It doesn’t feel force.

It’s well written, everything had a good reason for being there. All of it was earned.

A lot of it was surprising too. Especially those cameos.

100%, though you probably mean season over series.

The difference with this season is it was written and directed by a fan who is passionate about this franchise, these characters, and respects the fan base. Something that has been lacking in a lot of new content for a while now.

People like Chabon and Kurtzman are creatively empty and have no connection to the 35 year plus legacy that is Star Trek: The Next Generation. When a showrunner admits that he wanted to “piss off or provoke people” they’re not in this for the right reasons. Roddenberry wanted to bring people together.

For many fans, this is not just a TV show, we grew up with these characters, learned from them, and it left a lasting impact. To see them together again on the Enterprise D is an incredible thing to witness after all this time.

It’s been refreshing seeing everyone equally enjoy this season and share their perspectives each week.

I don’t know about all this.

Everyone back in their old ship, at their old stations, it does not feel earned to me. It does feel pandering. Maybe this is how some older fans felt when at the end of Star Trek IV there was a brand new, replacement Enterprise. But imagine instead that it was a replica of the original TOS Enterprise instead to end the movie. A bit much, don’t you think?

I’ve been loving the season up till now, but this felt like a bridge too far, no pun intended. I’m surprised Geordi hasn’t found an excuse to put on his old visor, at this point. This “Chewie, we’re home” moment did nothing for me.

I can't imagine not reacting the way I did to the last 5 minutes.

I've already gotten such joy from this season, the finale will be the icing on the cake.

I guess I'm somewhere in the middle. On the surface this season has come across a bit too much like fan fiction, with the constant references and surprise cameos and iconic villains working together, and I think the final moments in this episode does stretch credibility to the breaking point (even as awesome as it was to see).... but they've also done such a great job with the underlying character work and the emotional stakes and giving the actors some of the meatiest stuff they've ever had to do, which I think helps balance out the fan service and make this not feel like another Rise of Skywalker. And for me that's what has really made this season so effective, more than all the shout outs and references.

It is fan service (pandering) 100% but after what we’ve been getting from Kurtzman Trek, I’ll gladly take one more ride with our favourite crew on the Enterprise of my era.

I’ve pointed out there over reliance on nostalgia and the odd plot hole but at the end of the day, this is the final send off, one of which I’d thought we’d never see after Nemesis.

After this, we likely go back to mediocre.

The HD detail on the D in this teaser for episode 10… Spectacular.

I do find it funny that Patrick Stewart insisted that he would only return to the role of Picard if he didn't have to be on the bridge of a starship barking out orders like last time... and now they have him back doing exactly that, and on the exact same bridge as well. 😄
