Re: Star Trek TOS head sculpts

Was just looking at Nanjin's thread, which someone revived. You've set yourself a high standard, my friend, but I'm confident that you're up to the challenge. On this front, Kirk now has a body, a Soldier Story with a sculpted in neck to fully utilize the wrap-tunic. Too bad he didn't come with a neck-post or feet!...PS

Re: Star Trek TOS head sculpts

Not exactly desperate, but very curious. Kirk's issues are resolved, and all 3 now have base coats.Going to need clothes for them soon...PS

A few pics to liven up the words...

Off to a good start!

The best likeness...

The most physical work, adapting the neck...

The trickiest paint job so far;between a very specific base and shading, it took 2 tries to get Spock locked down.Really appreciating Spenser's talent right now; he gave me a great foundation to build on...PS

Re: Star Trek TOS head sculpts

I like what you've done.
I wish I had the guts [oh, and the skill] to adapt the necks like that.

Re: Star Trek TOS head sculpts

It wasn't all that difficult.Figured out where to make the cut, then a quick run through the band saw. Then I cleaned up the cut and bored out the joint with my trusty Dremel and a hefty bit.Once I had a fairly close socket, I mixed up some epoxy putty(MagicSculpt),sprayed the neck post with mold release and carefully pushed the neck post into position, gave it a minute to settle and even more carefully pulled it off. Then I left it completely alone until the epoxy cured. The only real trick is guesstimating how much epoxy to use;too little and you have gaps, too much and you're wasting it(as it's a bit expensive, I try to avoid this). Now all you have to do is build up your courage(practising a little helps too)...PS

Re: Star Trek TOS head sculpts

Still having fabric problems but it’ll soon…

Re: Star Trek TOS head sculpts

Spenser can you check your PM? I've been trying to contact you for weeks.

Re: Star Trek TOS head sculpts

Good news;a complete set of Nanjin's Trek figures has shown up on Ebay. Bad news;the opening bid is $899! Spenser,we need you now more than ever!...PS

Re: Star Trek TOS head sculpts

I hear you man, I just received the printed Deltas for the uniforms yesterday and have an embroider doing some braid samples now, but with the holidays upon us it more than likely that I won’t see anything until the end of the month on that.

Re: Star Trek TOS head sculpts

Understood;just glad that things are proceeding on your end, as they are here.Heads are looking good, though I've come to realize that Kirk is going to be one where I have to be very careful with the paint. He was good, then I made an adjustment and he went away, then I made another tweak and he was back;Oy!...PS

Re: Star Trek TOS head sculpts

Put me down on the list for uniforms. If there is a list.

Re: Star Trek TOS head sculpts

Since this thread needed a bump anyway, I'll repeat myself from the WPG thread.I've been thinking on the boot problem, and I think I might have hit on a workable solution.Sculpting won't be a problem;molding and casting are the trick. I'll share when I've tested my idea...PS

Re: Star Trek TOS head sculpts

Got the fabric today and the colors look good, I’m taking it to the seamstress tomorrow and have a tunic made and see what it looks like. I hope this is the one.

Re: Star Trek TOS head sculpts

How many of you guys want the green casual uniform beside wax murderer?
