To me, that sentence read like, "OK guys, we don't have Chewie or R2, but this thing doesn't suck, it can still be cool."
I was trying to be an optimist! :lol

Well like I said, unless they're playing tease games, the article doesn't give me hope about companions for this set just yet, but I am as hopeful as everyone about it, I immediate thought Chewie when they hinted this piece.

You should be an optimist.

The Dejarik Holochess Set kicks off the beginning of our Star Wars 30th Anniversary Celebration.

If this doesn't sound like a wording for "this is our inaugural piece in the 30th Anniversary of SW line", I don't know what it is.

Also, the ES of just 1250 is very low, so don't beat yourself up once Chewie, Luke, Han, Old Ben and the Droids are released at much higher edition sizes, and you have no diorama pieces to arrange them around.

And finally -- this is the first piece in the 12" line that's completely not plastic!

Probably not, but consider paying the same ammount for Salacious and crew who are plastic, I think the price match is fitting.

the only thing of decent size would be the table. I think the chess set should be much cheaper than salacious and gang, regardless if its polystone and pewter.

What are you supposed to do with this thing any way?

Well, I'm sure Chewie and gang are in R&D, but for now, it sounds like this piece was done because it ties with ANH and the Anniversary, as well as being a fan favorite within the company and they pursued it wanting to see it become a 3D reality.

Just because they're fans of Dejarik doesn't mean they did this thing just for kicks.

Sideshow is a sensible business, they know why they're doing this.

You know, it's a LOT bigger than I imagined it would be...

yeah same here... funny really considering I knew it was 1/6. That piece is going to be surprisingly big when in hand.

With it being made of poly and pewter that would automatically make it more exspensive. The materials themselves cost more and with this low an ES it's going to raise the cost.

As far as what to do with it. Display it as you would anything else. It's kind of like a mini prop.

One day this piece will sit beautifully between Chewie and R2, it may not be this year, but it will one day and when that day comes, eBayers and all those types of places will be selling it high because they know people will be wanting it to go with those figures, if it's affordable, I think it'd be wise to snag one now, it's destined to have friends some day down the road.

I'm still sitting on the fence for this thing. I don't see the point of having it sitting in my display case by itself. Plus, no chairs to sit the figures?

I'm glad they know why they are doing this because I sure as hell dont.

Ok, let's hop aboard our time travel machine to approximately 2009, where we are now proud owners of a 1/6th scale Chewbacca figure and 1/6th scale R2-D2. We dust off our chess table piece and display it between Chewie and R2...

I don't know about you, but it would look pretty weird to have Chewie just standing there next to this table. Unless we get a Milliennium Falcon bench, I just don't see how one can display these three together nicely. But that's just me. R2 would look cool posed next to it but I'll definitely be posing him with 3PO instead.

I don't remember who said it but I agree in that I wouldn't pose Chewie, R2 or anybody sitting at a chess table anyway. Chewie will be standing next to Han guns blazing and I'm sure I can find a better spot for 3PO and R2 too.

I'm just excited about the fun things you can do with this baby. Half of the time my figures are in comic poses anyway, this will give me lots of stuff to make my display entertaining. I can't wait to see Salacious and Bib having a game on this thing--too cool!

Hey Captain, What about a chess match between Boromir and Faramir? A duel between the brothers Denethor! :D

I have thought this over, but I will be passing. This is what I call a novelty item and without Chewie, R2, or Threepio, this is one set that I just cannot get excited over. A table by itself is just not exciting to me. Bubo is a great set - it compliments the awesome Jabba set...this is just off in its own world.

It's still a pretty cool accessory, even if Chewie and the droids aren't on the horizon.

Fans of the Expanded Universe can always pose their Qui-Gon with it!

Outlander, I think you just personally sold a few tables. :D

It's gonna look pretty funny looking at Chewie and C-3po standing at a chess table when they have no chairs to sit down on. Like someone else already said, when those figures do arrive (if ever) they are gonna be in far more dramatic poses than playing chess. I'll pass on this one, but if it came with a couple of chairs then I may consider it:chew .
