I've notice a few people say there were moments that really stood as (ie, Pod Race, Maul lightsaber battle, in TPM).

Curious to see what everyone's standout moments were in TROS?

That is an interesting question... and I'm stumped.

I think the one thing that stayed with me as I think about it was the gone-in-a-flash showdown between Ben Solo and his Knights of Ren. I liked the idea more than the execution. I liked what Kylo did in many of his moments in that fight. I don't remember a single Knight.

I also have to give a shout out to Han's return and the replay of the scene from TFA ending how Kylo wishes it had of ended with the rejection of the dark and the embracing of the light and his father. I thought that was well played. Some might say the rehashing of old plot points (this one from JJ's own earlier entry, Rey facing her grandfather like Luke faced his father) were lazy and proof of not having original ideas, but they weren't. They had power because they had come before. Some saw the ending that should have been there and others reinforced the original messages.

Hopefully people are avoiding these threads if they don't want to be spoiled.

I think so, these threads have all but given up with the spoiler tags and as threads to discuss the actual movie, one would be crazy to enter if they feared spoilers at this point I think.

Posted this in the other thread... Call me a fan of the ST now. :lol

So Where to begin....

I know.. Wed night I started seeing early reviews and there was talk about how JJ ignored and retconed TLJ....

I was not excited at all to see ROS but some reviews were sparking my interest again.. Oh and I have enjoyed some of the Mandalorian episodes so my Star Wars fandom had made a comeback.

So I watched TFA. Probably the most I enjoyed it ever. Its still did not feel like a Star Wars movie and I enjoy the first hour much more then the 2nd but Kylo, Rey, and Fin are good enough characters that it keeps my interest. AND "That's not how the force works" is one of my fav lines in the entire saga lol.

After it was over I thought about watching parts of TLJ... But I thought I would start it and if it held my interest I would finish it from beginning to end. As usual with this film I enjoy some parts very much. I love anything with Luke and like pretty much anything with Kylo. The weird thing was the stuff I hate I have sort of desensitized myself too because I have watched so many videos about it and discussed it so much here on the board. I would say I Jar Jared the moments I hated.. Basically that means I am able to ignore those parts and enjoy what I like about the film.. Just Like I do when I ignore Jar Jar in TPM.

Anyways after that I watched a few more reviews about TLS and damn it I started to think I might like it.. Sure there were reviewers that said it was a mess.. But those same reviewers liked TLJ the first time they saw it.

However There was one reviewer from Entertainment weekly that said he was one of the few main critics that didn't like TLJ and was again in the minority because he loved ROS.. So I was excited to see the new movie.. Could not find anyone to go with me that night so I had to wait till tonight....

Man was I set up to be disappointed yet again.. So how do I feel about the movie??

I FREAKING LOVED IT!!!!!!

I thought it was just about perfect. I loved every single thing about it. I got filled with emotion. I got teary eyed. I freaking clapped at one point.. I NEVER CLAP!!! I got goose bumps. I was sitting there with a smile on my face for the last 20 min of the film.

What I loved. Other than everything.

1. The chemistry of the characters and finally seeing them together. This should have been happening more in the first two films.
2. Rey being a Palpatine. All overpowered Mary Sueness is now forgiven.
3. Palpatine? I don't care if it makes sense.. I don't care if it was planned to always have him in it or not.. I don't care.. Having the Palpatine in it helps all the events of the new order make more sense to me if he was the one pulling the strings. Plus I love the opening so much with him in it, I just didn't care if it made sense or not.
:lol
5. Kylo getting the upper hand on Rey and her being genuinely surprised that he was.
4. Leia saying "Ben" and Kylo stoped fighting (1st tear up)
5. Leia's sacrifice and death.
6. "Hey Kid" I had no idea Han was in this and it worked. It worked so well. (2nd tear up) The fact that Kylo delivered so many of the same lines only this time he throws the saber.
7. Chewies reaction to Leia's death.
8. Red 5 baby!!!
9. The "On your left" moment with Lando? This worked for me way better that Endgame for me for two reasons. 1. I am a bigger fan of the SW OT that anything that Marvel has to offer and 2 that freaking John Williams score... Major goosebumps!!!
10. Lando! he nailed it every time.
11. ****ING WEDGE ANTILLIES was in this!!!! That was when I clapped.. And yes I was the only one in the theater that did
:lol
I am a huge fan of that character.
12. Rey figuring out that Ben is back on the Light side of the Force.
13. The coneheaded droid
:lol

14. All the Jedi voices and Rey taking on the spirit of all the jedi.. Beating the Emperor and it killing her.
15. Kylo gives his life for Rey.
16. Chewie gets Hans medal from ANH - ****ing Perfect!!!!
17. Rey takes the Skywalker name!
18. Luke and Leia force ghosts
19. That final shot!!!!
20. John Williams score.

1st time viewing I have no complaints. I was a kid again. I don't want to hear complaints of fan service. That is what these movies are here for.. The fans.. Don't crap on them. It's the Skywalker saga there should be call backs to the original series so that the world feels connected.

Sure all the McGuffin stuff was a bit much.. But you know what I loved what each part took us to. Did Chewie need to get captured.. Nope. But I loved his rescue.

I would say the only thing I was not crazy about was 3PO not being allowed to translate sith and taking him to that planet to reprogram him.. I have a feeling that will be boring on repeat viewings.. I did like that little alien though
:)

I saw this with my two best friends who are huge Star Wars fans like me. They felt the same way about the last two films as I did.. They both also loved this film. We all had our families with us and they all loved it.

I kept waiting for them to screw it up... The more I enjoyed the first hour the more I was sure they would mess something up. JJ didn't. I don't care if I end up finding this film to be more of a ROTJ type film where it does not stand up to the test of time. It does not matter. I felt like a kid again and my love of all things Star Wars has been renewed.

Thank you JJ!

Glad you loved it!

I agree with most everything you said, and I also think he masterfully tied it all together. He didn't pretend TLJ never happened, but I think he found a middle ground, a way to reinforce the ideas presented in that film. I don't think it was planned that way (emperor etc), but he made it more palatable for those that disliked the Last Jedi, and also provided a firmer bedrock for those that enjoyed it.

I kind of laughed at the idea of Palpatine having kids, but I guess I can accept it. Makes sense in a "preserving his rule" way.

Good to know you liked it also.. :rock

I said this in another thread about Palps having kids but The Ruler of the Galaxy getting his Freak on does not sound like much of a stretch to me. Probably more that one Palps bastard out there in the galaxy :lol

My thoughts on Palpatine and kids are that the guy was obsessed with eternal life. Clones, Force solutions. Eugenics is a logical addition to his toolkit in cheating death.

You should probably see the movie sober. then you'll have a different opinion.

I'm shocked by the reversal we've had here - Khev and JAWS loved it while ajp, who has been working hard to defend TLJ, feels the whole thing has been ruined.

So may as well all of us just resume posting in the main thread... there is no escaping it anyway, at least that way there's more balance there, and it's easy to put someone on ignore when their comments are clearly simply snark rather than substance.
Ugh. I'm not going in there. That thread makes me hate humanity.

Given how good Luke and Leia looked in the flashback scene, makes me think side stories, from post ROTJ/PreTFA, starring main characters could be possible in the near future.

ajp: TROS Hux
JAWS: TROS Kylo

;)

Now I need to go back and find ajp's review.

Has ajp done a complete review? I saw he didn't like it but I didn't see a more complete review.

Have you done one? I bookmarked JAWS' thoughts. There's a lot to read right now.

I want to come back to those once I see it tonight. This has been all over the place as to who liked it and who didn't. Crazy actually.:lol

I understand. Frankly I'm surprised that posting in there isn't bothering me at all - after seeing the film and loving it, I seem to have an immunity to the negativity. And while I agree with some of the criticiisms, I knew it wasn't perfect anyway - beauty and love don't have to be.

Just since you're not going over there, and because sharing our favorite moments started here anyway, I'll shere mine from the other place here as well, in spoiler tags for those who haven't seen it...

The moments that really shine to me are (In no order, except the first one for sure):

"Hey Kid." When I saw Han... that wound from TFA vanished, the way he died was so intense. And the moment he put his hand on Kylo's face, just like on the bridge... Yeah... what can I possibly say? It still brings tears thinking about it. It's a perfect moment.

Chewie's reaction to the death of Leia... it made up for their not hugging in TFA, and someone else here said it felt so real... yes, it did.

Threepio's sacrifice, taking one last look at his friends. and then all the following moments with him (the "oldest friend" etc)

Threepio's oldest friend (I can't remember the scrappy little guy's name)

Poe, Finn & Rey hugging.

"Ben" Leia reaching out to him, sacrificing herself to help save her son.

Wedge!

Lando brings hope - and a fleet! And just Lando in general, still the suave rogue!

Palpatine... he IS the Sith! Classic.

Healing the snake creature in that Sith temple. It felt like they took the Luke and Rancor narrative in ROTJ novelization to its rightful conclusion - it was just a creature in pain, and not evil - needed healing.

Hux getting shot. I mean, come on, the guy was a petty d******** and had it coming - he betrayed his own just to try getting back at Kylo!

Snoke in a jar. He was so arrogant - and without merit... seeing he was a puppet of the puppet master and a bunch of them on display in Palpatine's place... yeah, they'll be selling Snoke in a Jar plushies at Toys 'R Us! (J/K)

"I was wrong." Luke. That made him so much more interesting and better and I can watch TLJ now as canon without any huge issues. In fact, it echos Ben Kenobi, who confesses he was wrong about training Anakin. And I liked his line about not throwing around lightsabers casually - it felt like an apology to Rey for his bad attitude, and in character.

Hyperspace hopping - dang that looks like fun! That was the one part of the film I did find manic paced - but it was supposed to be. The pacing was appropriate, not to be tried at home.

The Y-Wing. What can I say, I like that ship!

Zori and her interaction with Poe - echoed of Empire Han and Leia and I loved it!

The kiss. And the connection between Rey and Ben (even when Kylo was there, it was like Ben was fighting to come out).

The Force Lightning... seeing it lashing out to the Resistance fleet, it finally felt like something approaching worthy of the way the Force is described by Vader in Star Wars. If it is all that Vader said, then that's just the beginning - saving lives and stopping ships or even whole fleets shouldn't surprise people.

Palpatine's fleet. Because every bad guy needs sharks with lasers (or Star Destroyers with Death Star cannons!)

Lightsaber battle in Kylo's Quarters... I really like how they can have battles even being in different places - again it feels like the Force is finally getting its due. I never expected it to be explored more like it has been in this movie (and in TLJ - which also works now, in retrospect!)

It was so good to see the new characters come into their own. And so good to see all of the old characters go with dignity and class.

A beautiful thing.
Nice list! Your first is my favorite as well, very powerful. I'd actually say that entire scene at that location was great.

Given his apparent manipulation, I felt bad for Ben, he really had little choice in what path he went down.

The more I think about it, the more convinced I am Anakin was the progeny of Palpatine, perhaps that led to the Skywalkers being so powerful in the force. I almost feel like the kiss was a nod to that. Otherwise, a hug should have sufficed. [emoji1]

At this point, I'm not sure I "Loved" the movie, but I definitely enjoyed it, I'll be seeing it again soon. I definitely need another viewing to fully process it. Part of me wonders what might have been, had TLJ been more widely accepted, but I guess we'll never know.

I'm positive this movie is bad. The leaked footage is hilarious. Thanks J.J. for the laugh. :lol

Your like a broken record....

It says alot about certain members when we LITERALLY have 2 threads, one where your free to have fun bashing ST all day long.....

And One created for fans to discuss the series in a positive light....without silly comments meant to derail the discussion.

And the trolls STILL wanna come here and be negative....

Its clear what they really want, and its not discussing SW.

I made a pretty spoilery list of all the things I liked or loved about the movie so I wouldn't search for that until after you've seen it. The end space battle didn't wow me like I was hoping but the main character drama between Rey, Kylo, Palps and the OT heroes was absolutely fantastic IMO. Ben Solo went from being an under-utilized villain to my favorite non-OT SW character.

I'm still processing the experience but it definitely cracked the Top 5 of the overall Saga for me.
