Hasn't been funny since the original cast.

Eddie Murphy? Martin Short? Christopher Guest? Billy Crystal? Phil Hartman? Mike Myers? Chris Farley? Norm McDonald? Adam Sandler? Dana Carvey? Will Ferrel?

To name just a few, you didn't find any of them funny?

I would argue the early 90's xast were even better than the original cast.

Honestly, no. I was never a fan past the original cast.

“You go to make a movie and all you do is get criticized,” is how George explains why he stepped away from the world-famous franchise he created. “And it’s not much fun. You can’t experiment.”

Lucas may have handed the Star Wars reins over to Lucasfilm and J.J. Abrams, but that doesn’t mean he’s done having fun in that galaxy far, far away. In this video from Vanity Fair’s New Establishment Summit, Lucas is full of winking jokes for Star Wars fans. Which Star Wars character would he most like to be? “Jar Jar Binks,” Lucas replies, knowing full well the floppy-eared Gungan is the most hated character of the prequels.

Even more mischievously, Lucas says he’s most curious to find out what happened to Darth Vader’s grandkids. It’s a question that ties into the rumors swirling around the carefully guarded plot of The Force Awakens, and provokes a rueful shake of the head from Abrams.

I like that the sabers look "heavy" again like in the originals. No over the top saber fights. Not that the PT didn't have a good one with the TPM... But I did not like any of the others.

That's probably just because the guy is unskilled. He just got that saber or something didn't he?

The Jedi in the prequels handled them like they were nothing because they were trained pros since they were little kids. Of course they'd handle them effortlessly.

I've seen skilled martial artists whipping poles, swords and axes around like nothing, so it's no stretch they could do it with a plasma beam. I actually liked the logic of the fight choreo for TPM...that you could use different attacks given the balance and lightweight of the weapons coupled with their devastating destructive power.

My issue with PT duels was how ridiculous they got after TPM.

What DiFabio says makes sense, but the sabers had weight to their movement in the OT.

Since they've been using them for a very long time it should've remained effortless.

Yeah Obi Wan and Vader were old farts so that explains the gravity effect on the sabers, but I never bought that point of view from Lucas because of one element, The Force!

Plus Lucas ****ed that rationale right up with Count Dooku and Yoda in the prequels.

Are you saying that because they have the force, age should not be a factor and it shouldn't affect their movements even when they're older? I don't like Yoda moving like Spidey, then when the fight is over he goes back to using a cane. :dunno

Agreed but he still looks like that saber has some weight to it... Its not like a fencing sword. Plus those martial arts guys are usually whipping it around by themselves for show and not in a duel... It just does not translate well to film and looks bad.

TPM was well choreographed. The sabers still had weight and momentum. ROTS looked like exactly what they were... little sticks with no weight.

I am not saying that the saber fights have to look as slow as the OT... But give them some weight and more then anything give them some drama... Something sorely lacking in AOTC and ROTS.

Plus Lucas ****ed that rationale right up with Count Dooku and Yoda in the prequels.

Star Wars Episode 7: Who Is Maz Kanata played by Lupita Nyong’o in The Force Awakens?

Mark Newbold for Metro.co.ukFriday 12 Jun 2015 9:18 am

She’s one of the hottest acting properties on the planet right now, winning a best supporting actress Oscar for her performance in 12 Years A Slave and setting up a career that is sure to dazzle.

Come December 18 she’ll also be a part of the Star Wars galaxy as actress Lupita Nyong’o joins the cast as pirate leader Maz Kanata.

But who is Maz? Is she friend or foe? Does she sell out the good guys to the minions of the First Order, or is she on the side of the Resistance? Perhaps she plays both sides to the middle? Let’s investigate.

Based on the many and numerous rumours doing the rounds right now, Maz Kanata is a pirate leader and an associate of legendary smuggler Han Solo. As the story progresses our heroes meet up with Solo and Chewbacca and after some close scrapes need somewhere to lay low and regroup.

Han suggests Kanata as someone who can help, and so the Millennium Falcon flies to a jungle planet (which may or may not be the moon of Yavin, location of the hidden Rebel base in 1977’s A New Hope) and our heroes enter a pirate hideout filled with distinctly unsavoury characters.

Nyong’o performs Kanata as a motion capture character, a decision which came under some scrutiny given that she had recently won an Academy Award and is a person of colour in a film series famously lacking in that regard. That said, she IS an Oscar winning actress and clearly the role and the challenge of working with this growing and emerging technology was attractive to her. In an age where the multiple dots and markers of a motion capture suit can replace the hours and hours of practical make-up application and removal, expect to see more and more quality actors take this approach.

After learning that the lightsaber our heroes possess is that of Luke Skywalker, Kanata offers to show them a vision and this leads to a potentially huge revelation – that Rey is Han Solo’s daughter. Remember, these are just rumours right now and NOTHING is confirmed.

The First Order find and attack our heroes and Kanata’s castle is destroyed, although Maz herself escapes.

It seems that Kanata is a trusted character. Her advice is given without request of reward and even Queen Leia takes Kanata’s advice and follows it. While she is a pirate leader, rumours suggest that she sides with the Resistance.

It could read that Kanata is the wise old elf character that Yoda first started out as, offering advice and guidance without an agenda. That said, this is Star Wars and the sequel trilogy is designed to be a lot more ‘grey’ – blurred lines between the forces of good and evil.

But if this is Maz Kanata,

who is the dude in the 'throne'?

Why the **** would beams of light have weight?

These are the greatest fighters in the galaxy. They have the ability to sense other beings, predict attacks, and even mind control. Their weapons are light as feathers and can burn through just about any material. That's a recipe for some pretty damn unearthly battles.

The duels in the OT weren't bad and they don't ruin my experience of the OT, but it makes no sense for the strongest beings in the galaxy to fight so slow and stiff.

PT lightsaber combat > OT lightsaber combat
