Personally, the light of his lightsaber is the real toy-killer for him right now. The two biggest looks for him in the trailers have been in a stormtrooper outfit or with a lightsaber. And all of his figures so far feature neither. I think a lot are waiting for those and/or to see the movie.

Mace Windu and Lando have always sold just fine.

I noticed that too recently. Every store I go to...there's fin...with his little gun thing. The Rey figure came with BB8, the staff, a backpack and I don't know what else, but I knew he was going to be a peg warmer when I saw the figure. Was he really upset about it?

it wasn't just him,
there was this controversy online a couple of months ago about how racist star wars fans were because a lot of people dont give a rat's butt about Finn

there were even articles written about the racism of star wars fans, stores had Finn at 50% off and no kids dare touch the damned things.

he did made some tweets about being sad .
even some of the freaky weird aliens were selling out

the whole "people will buy him when the movie is out" doesnt really hold up with star wars fans. they buy everything people even buy characters that were on screen for a coupe of seconds
people just don't like him,

The only aspect of colour that I give credibility to is what I noted above:

He's paired with Rey, but he cannot be a Skywalker or Solo by birth. That makes him an outsider, and pushes him further from the centre of the story. He'll likely be more popular after people have seen the film, and seen him fight his way back to the centre of the story.

But Boyega isn't ugly though, he's actually hollywood handsome I would say, more so than that white dude making that comment.

If he's good in the movie his toy will sell, that simple.

there are better looking actors than him though. Specially for a role as big as this one.
I hate to say superficial things like that.. but there is a reason chris evans is Capt America or why chris hemsworth is Thor...............

we as an audience like to see pretty people. i dont know if girls find him hot. but.... yeah lol

Had Finn's figure come with a removable stormtrooper outfit, or a head that could be swapped on to a stormtrooper body, his figure would have sold quite well, I think. As for Rey, not only is she the focus of the new movie, but she comes with BB-8, the figure everybody wants.

Now this guy I like. He looks confident, heroic, and cool...but he might just be a pilot...oh well Does he even have an action figure?

If they ever make a Columbo film, he and Mark Ruffalo would be my #1 choice to play him.

That's cool. It sounds like he's just a pilot, which isn't a bad thing if he's a great at it, but kids want to be a jedi, not a pilot.
