Does Luke call himself Skywalker at all before Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru are murdered? May be he goes by the name Luke Lars :lol

It would make a great scene on the Death Star if Leia had kept her real surname. :rotfl

I don't remember if he uses his full name, but I'm sure in school he uses his full name. Didn't he want to be a pilot because his friends were going to pilot school in the summer? I'm sure he had to use his full name in the application, unless he just goes by a single name like Madonna or Sting..or Luke Johnson or something.

Or "Wormie"! ;)

Also now canon: Vader sends Boba Fett to find out Luke's identity...

Why are folks referencing the new EU as if it is really canon? The old EU was canon for years and just like that *poof* it was gone. I wouldn't get too attached to this new continuity. I have a feeling that they're going to be rebooting it every several years now and none of it really matters in the end.

You sound a tad bitter about it.

The old EU was canon for years

According to who? My understanding, going back to the 90s, was that EU was never canon. Was there ever an indication from GL or Lucasfilm that it was officially Canon? I still don't understand why people are surprised/angry about this. :dunno

The EU was considered canon, even by Lucas, until the prequels came along and contradicted stuff from it. Of course, the prequels contradicted stuff from the OT as well.

"Canon" doesn't even matter with any of these franchises.

When I see Star Wars, I still have a hard time buying that Vader is Luke's dad, Leia is Luke's sister, and that Obi-Wan is blatantly lying to Luke's face, and that's just OT stuff. Best to look at each thing, be it movie, book or game, as one story at a time. That's how I enjoy it anyway. All these "Universes" whether it's Star Wars, Superheroes or Terminator and Alien are inconsistent junk.

I've never read or heard anyone say those books were canon except fans. I'd definitely be interested to see a quote from GL or Lucasfilm saying they were.

I just bought the Kenobi novel. Ben Kenobi in a western set on Tatooine? Yes, please. Canon shmanon.
If they make an official Kenobi movie that contradicts it? Yes, please, too.

Canon shmanon.

:exactly:

It's a vast universe, with too much in it to remember. But certain things stick in the memory and form the basis of what that universe means, and why it's so appealing.

I always think back to the early EU, the point at which the universe began to expand.

Nobody can take that away.

And if you ever need justification, there's always the caveat that 'official' canon which contradicts is merely a mis-told or mis-remembered story. Or even an outright lie. :lol
