As stated in other threads, I'm definitely not a driver fan. But he gets props for this movie. Character was well written. Nobody laughed at him during any moment. That sounds absurd.

Movie was fantastic. Great set up movie for the rest of the saga. Just Abrams does a really great job at capturing this movie and delivering the story to the audience.

As most people seem to do... they ignore reasoning and continue bashing the film when it has been explained to them.....

Nonetheless....

Falcon smashed a scrap metal outpost. Any ship or car could. Then you don't even mention the Falcons most "indestructible" feat of smashing through trees. Guess you forgot in your anger. Space metal at a high speed vs wood..... I take space metal. Nothing hard to understand.

There is soil on the island. There was grass. Plus, you know, water surrounds the island on all sides, fish and other aquatic life probably live in the water so Luke most likely eats that.

But how does Captain America jump from a six story building and not break his legs? And is Luke just another dead-beat dad ala Superman?

I agree about it not feeling like Star Wars and I also feel pretty disappointed.

Over half of the audience laughed hard when Kylo Ren took off his mask and revealed his face (it didn't make me laugh though), did anyone else's theatre do this? He did look pretty goofy though and I think the guy is a horrible actor, ala Hayden Christiansen.

I had a pretty quiet audience (quiet enough that I heard Han say "Ben") so no one laughed. I have to say that I loved Kylo in all of his appearances with his mask on but that feeling did weaken considerably every time he took it off. I have no problem with him not being scarred or menacing and just looking like a regular type dude (although his new scar can't hurt his badassness, of course). I had a problem with his demeanor. I guess it's the illusion of the mask and voice but he felt like 2 different people with and without the mask.

There's a lotta butt hurt going around

My butt hurts big time right now and the only thing that'll cure it is for Rey to massage it

Sure, it's the reality/universe/setting, etc. but it's Abram's brand of Star Wars.

I can recall similar feelings about Nu-Trek: minus the names and ship design, it could have been an entirely different franchise.

It does seem that JJ kinda forgets the key words in both franchises: STARS.

In Nu-Trek we see the Enterprise in atmosphere, underwater (dearmotherofgawd), in drydock on Earth's surface but not so much in outer space.

In The Force Awakens, the Falcon is shown flying in atmosphere more than in space.

Atmosphere Wars, maybe? More accurate.

The obligatory starfield pan-down opening shot seemed the most we're shown of any actual stars.

Although I suppose when the battle station this time around is encased in an entire planet, things can't help but feel more terrestrial and grounded.
Planetoid Wars, maybe?

(butt feels fine)

I LMFAO when Luke takes off Darth Vader's mask in ROTJ. This dried dog turd is Darth Vader?!?!?!?!??! ROFL

I liked the air battle with the Falcon on Jakku against the two Tie Fighters. That was really well done in my opinion. The beginning with Poe and Finn escaping the star destroyer was really great and well executed too.

All the other starship battles weren't memorable to me. The X-Wings coming to the rescue in broad day light kind of blew, and the dog fight at the end when they're trying to blow up the Starkiller base is just a blur in my mind. Very ho hum, especially when you think back to ANH's trench run, or the Snowspeeders, or the attack on the Death Star II in Jedi. It's understandable though, this is the third time we've seen something like that and besides, it was edited along side a really neat lightsaber duel. I felt the same with Phantom Menace, like "stop going back to Anakin and R2 in the starfighter and Vulture droids, go back to the duel between Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon and Maul!"

Yeah, Rey was one helluva pilot. I would think due to it's shape and size, it's older make and issues, that the Mil Falcon would be a tough ship to fly.

TFA was good. its not as bad as what the OT purist makes it out to be.

that said...PT still stinks of crappiness. :lecture

I know we've all be speculating about Rey's heritage but what if she had one of those ridiculous Virgin Mary births. Maybe the force is her father just like Anakin :lol that would explain why she's so powerful I guess, even though it didn't really do much for Anakin.

And Luke was the one that gave birth to her!

Yeah, I thought that moment during the initial battle when he seems to be having PTSD or a Saving Private Ryan moment was good. We got to see things from his point of view and the horror of being a Storm Trooper, and how bad they really are, which is a nice change because Storm Troopers have never been taken seriously in the other films

Yeah, and I liked the little peeks we got into "Trooper" life that TFA gave us. You know, if you're a soldier and you're struggling with something the Empire isn't "how can we help one of our own," but rather "hmm we should probably get this guy's conformity evaluated." And just how strict they are with how taboo it is to remove your helmet indoors, in a secure base, for even just a few seconds. You see how it all ties together and how the helmets are clearly a big part of "trooper conformity" but they revealed those things so organically. They didn't stop and just have someone give a lecture on how things are done.

I also liked how the Stormtrooper training paralleled the Jedi training of the prequel era. Taken from birth, separated from family, trained for a single purpose. It makes me think that this series will be about stripping the Force down to it's roots and eliminating the biased dogma of both sides. Luke isn't sitting on his ass in exile. Han pointedly mentions the rumor that he is searching for the first Jedi temple. He's looking for a way to truly bring balance, not just delay another Dark Side/ Light Side war, IMO

I really liked how the Stortroopers were handled, but Finn, although the character was fun -albeit a bit bland, had me scratching my head most of the time.
So here's a guy who while raiding a town full of dangerous rebels, suddenly gets overwhelmed by seeing a fellow soldier get killed, and gets so worked up over it, that deserts, betrays all his fellow soldiers -the men he grew up and trained his whole life with- aids the guy who did the killing that so shook him, and then happily starts killing his old comrades. I mean, really?
That's quite an extreme change of heart.
If the whole affair had been handled lightly, like Lucas did in the OT and PT, it would've been easier to swallow, but Abrams made the violence and dying preety serious in TFA, so it really didn't work for me.

It could've been a friend, plus it was more the killing of all those villagers that made him desert.

If I'm not mistaken, he said this was his first mission and didn't he say he worked in sanitation or something? Not quite a seasoned soldier.

According to the Art Book they thought about having Anakin's / Vader's ghost ....guess boo birds and haters of PT would of flipped if that happened :lol

So that guy in the other thread was telling the truth after all. That might have worked well in explaining Kylo's conflict. Maybe we'll see Ghost Ani later in the trilogy.

I found a lot of problems with it but the main one is it didn't feel like Star Wars to me. Sure, it's the reality/universe/setting, etc. but it's Abram's brand of Star Wars. We can mostly agree that the prequels should've been a lot better, but the one thing that we can probably also agree on is at least they all felt like Star Wars.

My thoughts exactly. As a movie I loved it, as a SW movie I'm still not sure ...

No, that guy (actually is a girl) is a liar. Said ghost of Anakin was a deleted scene that she watched and it would be confirmed in the art book. Those Anakin drawings were from pre-production from August of 2013. That person is a complete liar.

If it was Hayden Christensen it would've sucked. If it were James Earl Jones as Vader it would've been awesome. No image. As if the discarded dark side part of Vader it still out there without Anakin. But alas they did not go there.

There's a lotta butt hurt going around

Considering it's almost a remake of IV I don't see why. It was a back to basics film. Someone finally said "let's stop making special editions and do a f'king remake.

I imagine VIII will be the one where they really get away from the formula.
