Interesting, my childhood heroes were a former Vietnam soldier with PTSD and a rich dude who dresses like a bat because his parents were murdered :lol

Good choices.....but the truth is in the dollars.....More people know Luke Skywalker's name than a single Medal of Honor winner.

The billionaire was another example of the above .......Unfortunately at the time, Vietnam Vets were not welcomed home the way they should have been.

Yup, it's true...all of it.

If you grew up on this idea ...

This doesn't seem to be that far fetched

All about the subtext

Even Finn, got disillusioned with the military promise of glory.

Um no...

Finn was taken against his will to cooperate with the First Order

I believe in our present time, this is known as slavery...

On top of that they removed his identity and gave him a number...

As seen in other accounts of our own history with the holocaust and again slavery

He takes back his identity by the end of the film

I was 10 (arrived in the US in 71), had parents and sibblings, but we were really poor which caused parents to fight.

I really wasn't too aware of politics, gas crisis or vietnam fallout.

Words can not describe seeing SW in a theater in 77.

No you were not fully aware....but aware enough to really love the first true escapist movie. Our hero's were unflappable. But most of us saw them as perfect. I think JJ is trying to humanize them, which might go badly.

Some people already have had a REALLY hard time accepting a certain characters death was not honored and immortalized....but really? Immortalize a ex general who skipped out on the fight and his son to return to smuggling and stealing..ripping people off??

Maybe if Solo died right after his deeds in ROTJ the rebellion might have given a poo.....but to them he disappeared and went back to his life of crime......

It would have been better if you went to Vietnam, then came home and saw SW, then blew up a gas station. I don't understand what your character's gimmick is. :dunno

What are people's thoughts on John Williams score? I am personally underwhelmed by it. There are only really 2 themes that even stick in my head: Rey's theme and the Resistance theme. I was hoping since he can't be around forever, Williams would create iconic themes that would be used in the upcoming sequels. Like Kylo Renn had no recognizable theme, the First Order didn't get the theme they deserved. I have been listening to the score since Friday and I like it, but really Rey's and the Resistance theme are the only ones I find myself humming.

The Resistance theme sounds the most like old school Star Wars music. It gets caught in my head. Just wish Williams came up with something more iconic for TFA. Even AOTC had the love theme which was great!

After listening to those tracks you posted, Rey's track is ok but I can't see it being one of the greats. I don't think it even matches any of the PT themes. The resistance march has nothing I would even call a theme, sounds more like any other John Williams incidental music of the past 15 years. You say you were underwhelmed but you like those two tracks so I guess that means I was even less impressed. His best is behind him. Having said that, I wouldn't have anyone else doing the job. For consistency sake the saga films do need his style.

I can't remember a single note of new music.
I remember Rey's and Kylo's music cues, but only because they were short and sounded like something from a cartoon show for 6 years old kids. The so called "Rey's theme" is an overblown lullaby. :lol

I guess he knew the film wasn't good and just phoned it in.
Or the directions JarJar gave him were that vague and bland...

Whatever, it wasn't THE JOHN WILLIAMS.

Like others said, I don't remember any of the new music.

This is one area where the new filmed failed to live up to even the prequels, the one area where they actually succeeded.
