I love how on the catwalk where Kylo kills Han right at the beginning of the catwalk where it connects to the platform there's like five feet of railing. Like the designers were standing at the end of this tiny walkway that goes all the way across a mile deep chasm and one of them said to the other, "You know as I'm looking at this I kind of feel like right here [holds hands a few feet apart] could be a bit of a safety hazard if we don't install something..." :lol

Another thing I wanted to mention:

Kylo really seems to *need* his hood and mask. Like even he doesn't truly buy into the notion that he is Neo-Vader without it. He's a freaking terror under the anonymity of the mask, to the point of turning around and freezing laser bolts in midair that are shot at his back! But it's almost as if the moment Rey manipulates him into removing the mask she defeats him. Suddenly he can't pull anything out of her head (which he so easily did with Poe.) On the bridge after removing the mask he suddenly isn't quick enough to freeze Chewie's bolt in midair. And in the forest, with the face of Ben Solo, he is defeated again.

I really think he wears it as a placebo to help him get into the proper mindset to be the next Vader. Kind of a brilliant "excuse" to have another masked Sith-type warrior with a cool voice on the part of the writers. They really did a good job of making him the kind of SW villain we're all accustomed to yet different at the same time.

Still, I think it would have been more appropriate if they just used Luke's green lightsaber. That story is more plausible, like he lost it at the camp when Kylo And the Knights of Ren murdered everyone. Maybe Maz found it or something.

The blue one was a MacGuffin since it was a relic belonging to Anakin. Kylo wouldn't have had any interest in finding the green one.

Maz still has to tell her story.

Ugnaughts were involved. Or the ice cream maker guy. One or the other. Maybe both but that seems too far fetched.

I just realized something, that's Luke's original saber from ANH and ESB :lol :slap The one he was holding when he got his hand cut off, so how did it get there? I forgot he lost it. Does he still have the green one?

Dude really? We been discussing the merits of the film for weeks, and you didnt see that? Kudus for admitting it!

I think we will get the explanation of how it got to Maz.....

But I always though it fell past Luke on the weather vane when he crashes into it . Was that his hand or lightsaber or something else? What the hell fell past him?

What Lightsaber did you think it was?(LOOK AT IT:)) :cuckoo: Plus she hands it to Luke! Sitting there complaining about the movie for weeks, but not even grasping the concepts? Maybe go and watch the OT again?

Complaining for weeks? The film has been out for 10 days :lol

I never gave it much thought. I guess I didn't care that much about it. Female Yoda probably said it was Luke's original lightsaber, but I wasn't really paying attention, and I saw the film twice. It just sort of hit me suddenly like one of Rey's visions when Khev was talking about it. Also, I had this flashback of Obi Wan giving the saber to Luke, and he kept it in a box I think...like in the new film, so It made sense.

I knew it was Luke's saber by the end of the film...but I guess I didn't think it was the same one he lost in ESB. I thought it was a newer one or something. There's a 30 year gap between this film and ROTJ, so it could have been a new one that he made. I mean, what are the chances of someone finding the original one? That place was huge.

I think while they don't show it. The reason why Luke's sabre does not move is cause even Rey was trying to get it. However it moved towards kylo only to be overpowered and move to Rey! I think there has been a constant "exponential" increase in Rey being able to use her powers. And I think she wins with him on that but was trying for it from the very beginning ! They don't show it obviously for making it dramatic. But again - yours is also a good way to look at that!

One thing that struck me was how much Luke's lightsaber seemed to behave like the One Ring or a Palantir. You (or at least Rey) barely touch it and get these violent visions. SW has always borrowed from Tolkien so this wouldn't surprise me. I almost got the impression that Luke's saber was *pissed* that Kylo killed Han and was all "I don't THINK so" when he tried to retrieve it with the Force.

It seemed to take the initiative in giving Rey her vision and you could almost interpret the scene where she catches it as it *choosing* her instead of her suddenly manipulating it to fly into her hand. You don't actually see her reaching out and using the Force, only the saber resist Kylo and then zip past him straight to Rey.

It didn't bother me. I guess I should've known that in a galaxy of coincidences where people run into each other and everyone is related or connected, it was possible that some tiny alien in a distant planet had the original saber that was lost in cloud city over 30 years ago, and she just happened to meet a girl that may or may not be related to Luke, who just happened to be hanging out with Luke's brother in law :lol Man, I wish I lived in that galaxy, maybe I could get back my original Coleco Rambo action figure that I lost 26 years ago.:monkey2

That was one of my most major problems with the film actually, is that they brushed aside the explanation of how they actually recovered the lightsaber when you actually see it fall into the atmosphere and presumably the core of Bespin in Empire. I was really hoping they'd explain that and I was annoyed that they never did.

So was it foreshadowing her meeting with Maz that when we first meet Rey Charles she's wearing those big goofy goggles just like Maz?

The camera even makes it a point to zoom in on them.

It was confirmed by ILM that the first title for the movie was Shadows of the Empire!

doh!

"The name might have only caused confusion though, as Star Wars: The Force Awakens has nothing to do with the book. And, after Disney acquired Lucasfilm, the company declared that only the movies should be considered official canon."

LOTR trilogy was a masterpiece- the modern age SW OT in my opnion!

so were the Harry Potter films...cant believe the made 8 beautiful HP films in 11 yrs....one of the best film series...All the films were good imho...cant say that about SW PT or middle earth Hobbit...enjoyed them all but not as good as the HP
