Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Abrams was my pick from day 1, stoked! :yess:

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Yeah thats kinda wierd. But I'll take it.

Now we just need confirmation on whose scoring and if the original cast will come back in at least some kind of capacity.

Fail if its not Williams. Period.

Announcing whether Mark and company are back will really determine the direction they are going with the new trilogy. So I hope we get news on that font ASAP!

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

If Williams is able and willing to do it, I am 100% for it. If not, I think Giacchino would fit nicely.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

These movies aren't even filming yet. The first one won't be ready for scoring until March or April of '15. John Williams will be 83.

It's unrealistic to think he will be scoring these films.

Best quote I've seen yet and it sums up exactly how I feel:

I love how the internet is SO starved to b***h about something, that it's all just like 'oh no! I can't believe he is directing this! lens flares! lens flares!'. Abrams is a solid director, and good at telling a story. Star Trek was great, Alias was great, Lost STARTED OUT great, M:I-3 was great....like, for christsake, is it SO impossible to just get excited for something and hope for the best? I guess I don't get the whole 'hate everything and complain on the internet about it' thing. Just be happy, you'll live longer. And for ***k sake, they could have said Brett Ratner was directing it! Then you would have wished Abrams would have got it. I'm personally excited for it. I'll wait till I actually SEE the movie before I decide if it sucks or not.

I'm directing Episode XXXIII in my mind right now, and it's an all astromech episode!

That is a good quote - got to say I agree. I see nothing bad about this announcement. Of all the directors out there, they could do a lot worse, and frankly with Abrams, I really don't see anything to complain about. If the worst thing you could say about the Prequels was that Lucas used too many lens flares, then you really wouldn't have much to complain about.

I also don't think the casting or story portrayed in Star Trek is at all an indication of what to expect in an Abrams Star Wars. The original isn't being recast and rebooted as Trek was and considering one of Abrams' mandates on Trek was make it more like Star Wars, which undoubtedly contributed to its success, I think he has a profound respect and understanding of Star Wars. Besides as I understand it the future Star Wars movies are still based on Lucas' story outlines and framework so they won't be a totally unknown equation.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

JJ's Star Trek, and I say this as a big Star Trek fan, was the best of all the Star Trek movies.

This man begs to differ.....

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

As long as Kurtzman, Orci, and Lindelof are NOWHERE near the script/screenplay, I'm fine with Abrams taking the reigns. I can't imagine the amount of pressure he's feeling.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Star Trek was the best Star Wars movie since Empire Strikes Back.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Michael Arndt is doing the screenplay.

Hopefully without any input, offhand or otherwise, from the above mentioned.

No doubt Abrams have discussed a lot of ep. 7 potentialities with them. Don't want their influence rubbing off.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Yup^

Exactly. The prequels were just bad, no way around it. I've had some time to digest this now and i'm really getting excited. Cause to me at least there's no way they're going to be as bad.

This could be the guy that resurrects SW, and undoes some of the damage that the prequels have done. Although if that happens he will get all the credit, but it's gonna come down to a team effort. (Disney, Scriptwriter, composer etc. ) They've done good so far by getting Michael Arndt and now JJ, so see ya next year when the trailer hits!

I do pray for John Williams one last time though.

Get ready!
