Yep I was wondering about the Ledger effect, not wishing death on my favorite actor of all time. :lol

I am a "sick flicker" though. Last year I theorized about the possibility of Keaton really blowing his brains out/nose off on stage when he won his Oscar. I blame Black Phillip. :lecture

OMG LOL :lol

Wut?!

I'm the innocent victim in here!

Seriously though, you want it to happen? We can talk, all I ask in return is something small and inconsequential, really, you won't even notice its gone.

Meet me out back in the barn.

:lol :lol :lol at last few pages, good stuff.

:lol

You know speaking of Batman 89 it really has been the only "SW" type phenomenon we've seen outside of the SW films. A movie that was such a phenom with regard to both the hype AND merchandise. Sure there are 1-3 "event" films every year, each with accompanying action figures and plush toys, but none outside of SW and B89 have really had that transcendent hype to them. That 1989 Bat symbol was a thing unto itself.

Obviously the LOTR trilogy was huge, and arguably "better" than both B89 and the OT (okay objectively better than Batman) but its merchandise never really caught on.

They differ in that Batman has now been rebooted so many times that today the Burton stuff is niche and as a result we don't get as full figure lines as we might like - Hot Toys stopped at 1 Batman and 2 Jokers and it looks like the Batman Returns line will end at Batman alone. Star Wars is still Star Wars, later films didn't make the OT 'niche', maybe because it's all the same continuity I dunno.

Well I was more speaking to the respective phenomenons at the time of each film's release but your point about the rebooting did make me realize something: Outside of HT and Neca there's really no mainstream "nostalgia" fad for Batman 89. If you walk into a department store you're more likely to see a retro shirt for Goonies or Reading Rainbow than you are the once massive Batman 89. Obviously the constant rebooting/reimagining of the character always keeps whatever modern incarnation at the forefront, for better or worse.

I've been away from this thread for less than 24 hours and I'm completely baffled. :lol

Not so fast Black Khev, Batman 89 symbol still the most popular t-shirt Batman logo to this day!

Wallets, key chains and hats too. :lol

There is a B89 symbol t-shirt available for purchase on target.com. Cool. Maybe I just haven't noticed them in stores. Too busy contemplating how celebrity deaths would pad the box office of my favorite films I guess. :devil

I have it on good information that WB is so worried, they have taken out "contracts" on Cavill and Affleck. ;)
