Pretty much this. Glad Lucas sold off SW franchise before he had a chance to redub the OT with Hayden whining his lines through a rebreather. Darth Vader is the perfect Storm of villains and he just deserved better in the PT.

He's even worse in ANH IMO. That's why I kind of laugh at Anakin being whined because Luke is every but as bad.
Luke is just as much a bratty little ***** in ESB.

The difference is in how the actor makes the audience connect with the character. One comes across as sympathetic, the other, obnoxious.

I had no sympathy for the whiny little Luke on Tatooine, nor the impatient little ***** in ESB.
Honestly, Luke was lame for all of ANH, he was cool on Hoth and sucked until the showdown on Bespin. I think ROTJ is completely clouded in my nostalgia of finally seeing him as a Jedi to fairly judge it.

Ewoks were cute and fuzzy.
Neither of those nor Luke being naive and whiny actually have anything to do with making a character thats story arc by the end of the PT was to become the most fearsome MF'er in the galaxy a whining emo.
Bad writing is just bad writing. Hell imo the Clone Wars TV show even handles Anakin leaps and bounds better than the PT did. I don't even think of them as the same character tbh. I actually like Anakin on CW.

Agree 100%. Though I don't think it was as much the writing as it was the actor. Lucas's scripts were bad since Star Wars, hell, even the dialogue in American Graffiti was cheesy as hell, but good actors make it work. Bad actors make it look even worse.

Probably true, it may have been the delivery by Hayden, I haven't really seen him in anything else to gauge his acting by. I just know that I definitely enjoy CW Anakin alot more.

I totally forgot he made that movie.
The lines were better, but as far as acting, I didn't see anything I'd consider an improvement upon Anakin, in Jumper.

Luke and Anakin are both whiny. If you agree that's great and if not I really couldn't give a rats behind less. The OT has more than its fair sure of bad writing just as the PT does. Again, if you agree that's awesome and if not that's ok to. I'm not losing sleep over any of it.

The problem is when Lucas wrote Luke that way in the OT he wasn't $h!tting on any prior portrayal of that character or ****ing with anyone's expectations. Writing Anakin the way he did ****ed with Darth Vader and also sabotaged the 'tragic' nature of the story he was trying to tell. There's no tragedy if either no one gives a $h!t about this annoying character or they hate him or they even laughs their asses off as he burns and then laughably cries out 'Nooooooooooo' at the end.
In any case, no I'm not accepting this 'the OT was just as bad' nonsense.

I really don't think there's a difference in the whininess save for the love scenes. Luke whines about not being able to go to Toshi station for parts, about his uncle holding him on for another season, about Red having a bad motivator, about cleaning the droids, R2 running off, going on some "fool errand" with Ben, about the Millenium Falcon, training on the Falcon, about Han taking charge in the detention block, missing Ben, about Yoda training him too hard, etc. Save for Hoth, the character really isn't all that likable until the duel on Bespin. Hell, his "bullseye womprats back home" is even annoying as ****. Probably part of the reason why Han is so revered. He seems to be the hero, with Luke his annoying sidekick until ROTJ where they trade places.

I dont think the lovely sand people raped his mum awell as killing her, if they did that is just wrong.
Nothing wrong with Luke in the OT he's a likable iconic character, Anakan in the PT was very disapointing due to Lucas picking a pretty terrible cardboard through away actor..
