Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I really don't think there's a difference in the whininess save for the love scenes. Luke whines about not being able to go to Toshi station for parts, about his uncle holding him on for another season, about Red having a bad motivator, about cleaning the droids, R2 running off, going on some "fool errand" with Ben, about the Millenium Falcon, training on the Falcon, about Han taking charge in the detention block, missing Ben, about Yoda training him too hard, etc. Save for Hoth, the character really isn't all that likable until the duel on Bespin. Hell, his "bullseye womprats back home" is even annoying as ****. Probably part of the reason why Han is so revered. He seems to be the hero, with Luke his annoying sidekick until ROTJ where they trade places. :lol

Huh, yeah that's a funny point actually the way Han becomes a slapstick hero in Jedi (his accidental dispatch of Boba Fett, his failed sneaking up on a biker scout etc) whereas Luke is very assured and deliberate in everything he does.
Having said that Han has a semi-slapstick moment in ANH where he chases after the stormtroopers only to be sent fleeing in panic when they realise they're only being chased by one guy while they are many. Han is at his best shooting Greedo first or piloting the Falcon. He knows a few maneuvers, like banking left :lol Nah seriously all that cool stuff he did in ESB when the model rigs became more elaborate.

Gas is $3.11. Not sure what that has to do with anything that I said. :lol :dunno

Luke and Anakin are both whiny. If you agree that's great and if not I really couldn't give a rats behind less. The OT has more than its fair sure of bad writing just as the PT does. Again, if you agree that's awesome and if not that's ok to. I'm not losing sleep over any of it. :lol

Yes, my point was to clearly deprive you of sleep. Curses foiled again. :cuckoo:

Or... maybe I just didn't get what one character being whiny had to do with the other unless you were just suggesting theres a Skywalker whiny gene? :lol

He had a few moments. Chasing the troopers down the corridor, his response to the control center after the shootout in the detention block, jumping down the garbage chute into the compactor, yet not once does that really even blemish his character. But the poor bastard lost his testicles in the carbonite. :lol

Among the males, absolutely 100%. The PT confirmed what the OT established. :lol

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I dont think the lovely sand people raped his mum awell as killing her, if they did that is just wrong.:(

Nothing wrong with Luke in the OT he's a likable iconic character, Anakan in the PT was very disapointing due to Lucas picking a pretty terrible cardboard through away actor..

It's the dialogue man. Even Harrison Ford had issues with his lines.

Sorry, I have a gas station directly behind the house. :lol

That was exactly my point. They're both whiners.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

But one whined about...normal teenage things. Friends, girls, freedom, money.

The other whined about sociopathic things. About being the greatest, killing people, wanting to murder, and creepy lines about sand and love.

So, when people say they are similar characters, I think they're grossly misguided.

Though the situations were entirely different, the whining was wholly adolescent, in both cases.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Maybe. But I can relate to Luke. Especially when I was a kid.

Never did relate to Anakin.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Indy/Marion in KOTCS were just as wooden as Anakin in the PT.

GL sucks and when he's near Spielberg he makes him suck as well.

Don't know why but Luke's whining was charmng in the OT.

Anakin's whining in the PT was grating.

Thank the maker GL didn't change Vader to a whiner in the OT to match the PT. :lol

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I for once agree with Celtic on this. Anyone defending the character of Anakin in the prequels, and trying to compare his whines to Luke's in the OT is well gotta say it again...An apologist for the PT!

:)
Maybe if a person actually likes the PT, they rationalize these thing i dunno. But it just seems to be damage control for something they wanna like.

^^^^100% OT apologist. :lecture:lecture:lecture:exactly:

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Retroactive criticism of the OT by PT apologists came first. Then, and only then an OT apologist will you be.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I just finished re-watching Wreck-it-Ralph with the kids. It's a great example of something that Disney and Pixar films have done and LFL films need to learn - it's possible to write a movie that entertains kids without being a mindless pile of crap for everyone else.
