Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

Speaking of Harmy's blu-rays, I'm late to the party, how does one go about picking up a set and how much do they cost? All I have are the LaserDisc's and my player went kapoot.

Get a hold of one of the members at the bottom of the list.
They're listed under "Those who can help", or something like that. :lol

3PO was annoying in a clueless, prissy way, but there was some intelligence there. JarJar was just plain dumb and annoying. If Lucas really thinks Empire is least liked, then he is either going senile or being an arrogant pr!ck. So glad he will have nothing major to do with the sequels.

Senile for sure.
I know quite a few SW fans who enjoyed ESB the most. Myself included.

I'm not going to rehash a list of everything great about ESB. That list would take a few pages, but I will say what some have forgotten... it has one of the most memorable plot twists in a movie. :yess:

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

What was Lucas saying? Was he saying Empire was his least favorite SW film or that generally speaking it is the least liked? If the latter, he is just plain wrong (unless he's only referring to opinions among today's kids). If its the former.....then why the hell did ESB have the least amount of changes made in the special editions?

All that hate he got from the prequels probably made him go a little crazy. I mean, there was so much mocking and hate going on :lol that Had to have messed with his head

Yup, he sold it all for less than a year's worth of profits in merchandising.

I, like many here, grew up with the original films and so, admittedly, can't see them objectively vis-a-vis the prequels. Having said that, I think 3PO was genuinely likable and funny in his way, whereas JarJar isn't. 3PO effectively played the role of easing dramatic tension, while JarJar just annoyed everyone and distracted them further from the presumed objectives of the film--to tell some story and entertain the audience.

Empire is the best one

I hate the SE more then the PT!!! There is nothing about the addtions in the SE that I find worth it.

If I had to pick one thing that the SE actually improved I would say the dog fight at the end of ANH. I did like how he upgraded the effects on that part of the movie and without changing any major plot points which is most important. However other than that I agree and still like to watch them the old way overall.

The old way where the now infamous scroll at the beginning leads with "Star Wars", instead of "Episode IV A New Hope". :yess:

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

The scroll in Star Wars (now known as Episode IV) started with nothing at all. Every episode starts with the big gold Star Wars...

Am I wrong? Did Star Wars originally incorporate the title "Star Wars" into the scroll? I have the Harmy's. Sure hope my memory hasn't been wiped.

The name of the movie was Star Wars. Not sure when the "ANH" was tacked on, probably either when it hit VHS or the SEs.

Just ask to be added to the list and keep track of the thread.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

The subtitle "A New Hope" was added to the crawl for the 1981 re-release of the orignal film.

Which is why it's a change I like. It was changed to fit with the series of films and to give it a cohesive feel. It does nothing to hurt the overall narrative. I don't understand why people throw a fit about that subtitle or how RotLA is retitled Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark on newer posters and video covers. If there's only ONE thing I would like retained on Harmy's discs, it'd be the "Episode IV: A New Hope." But I'd gladly sacrifice that if it means all the other changes are dumped.

Speaking of changes, I'm curious to see this "Adywan Revisited" set. What's that like? Does it keep all the SE changes or does it eliminate some of the dumber ones and add new things that would make more sense than George's changes did?

Actually it was added much early on while still in the theaters. When it was released in 1977 it only had Star Wars and then it started the scroll without saying Episode IV and all that stuff.

Then when the film was re - released the next summer of 1978 my Uncle took me to see the movie again because in those days there was no seeing it home on VHS or anything like that. At that point we noticed the change and we both looked at each other and said I don't remember that part of the scroll being there. So yes even back in the very beginning Lucas started messing with his movies. LOL....and yes I am getting old since I remember this stuff. :)

He does a better SE then what was released in the theaters by George.
