Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

I think they'll do the same with the ST as they have with Marvel and aim at an older demographic.
I think most kids are so desensitized to violence and other adult material these days that why aim at a younger audience when they watch the same movies and shows as a grown audience. So unless they aim at toddlers I don't see this being a childish show and with GL somewhat out of the picture on decision making we hopefully won't have a jar jar type character.

Im sure Disney wants to Milk this for toys but I am not really worried about the movie. They know they cannot mess up because of the prequels and expectations are high.

Also Disney might be hungry for that sweet toy money, but they can make good movies. Or even if they are just okay, Pirates of the Caribbean John Carter, I've never really been that disappointed with them, not as much as I was with Phantom Menace.

Agreed. People made a big deal when Lucasfilm sold to Disney, and thought Mickey Mouse would appear in Star Wars. Disney doesn't mess with Marvel at all, and you can bet that they might take even more care with Lucasfilm.

Yes, but it's worth noting that Bob Iger seems to be calling the shots with Star Wars. Not Lucasfilm. He never did that with Marvel (that I'm aware of). Marvel has been allowed to run Marvel in the form of Kevin Feige & co. So not sure the comparison is a strong one.

Yup. I forgot there's been concept art for Star Wars themeparks too. So that's another reason to "Disney" up the license.

Everyone involved with this acquisition has made it very clear they are trying to recapture the essence of the OT. (Shooting on film, practical models, location shooting, kasdan in on the script..)

Until I see something "Disneyfied" I have confidence.

You mean like Sabine from Star Wars Rebels?

Yes, there is that. But that's not tied to the movie I believe. Clone Wars has plenty of that kind of stuff pre Disney.
I won't be watching rebels for that very reason.
