Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

Disney is so ****ed up... You can't claim **** that's canon non-existent when it was canon before it entered the Prequels.... Does Disney even know that without Jan Duursema Aayla Secura would not exist in Episode 2? Ntm even Quinlan Vos was... metioned in Episode 3. The movies made a nod to canon comics and books as keeping a order in the sw universe. By saying comics are not canon is now saying that Aayla Secura doesn't exist nor does Quinlan Vos. And ik they were in the TCW, however their origin is what made them exist in the first place and their backstory along with it.

Good point. Best to make the prequels non-canon, as well.

Incorrect. Saying comics aren't canon simply means the comics aren't canon. It doesn't matter which came first. Film appearances are canon. Comic appearances are not.

Oh really? So where in the films does one person say Aayla Secura to verify that the blue walking Twi'lek is the person we can't say anymore is Aayla from the comics?

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

I believe the CW cartoon is still canon and she's called by name there. She's also named on the action figure tied to the movie which is what we've looked at for unnamed movie characters since the OT (Lobot was "Lando's Aide" in ESB credits, we only know his name because of Kenner.)

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

The characters in the films can still be "canon" but now they can make their origins however they please, like what happened to Asajj Ventress. Not saying it's a good thing, but it likely will happen if they even care enough to say who that blue jedi alien with the skimpy clothing in Episode 3 is.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

I only ever tried to read one EU book - one of the 'Bounty Hunter' trilogy books from the 90s I think.

Painful beyond explanation.

for or the record, this is the same as saying, "those Star Wars movies are terrible. Poorly acted, terrible dialog. I only ever watched attack of the clones"its one of the worst offenders of the bad books.

but cest la vie, the old EU is dead, long live the new EU. 4 new books coming centering on the time from before new hope to just before empire.

Long term, I'd like to see where they go, as while they said the stores never happened in-canon, the characters, places and peoples still exist apparently.

"Familiar faces, new adventures" and all that.

I'm actually quite excited, and I think for my personal "head canon " I'll just take the same approach the books did for the old stores that had already been tossed out.

In-universe fiction. Movies and the like.

"Don't believe everything you see on the net, or watch in a holodrama kid. You'll just be disappointed with the real deal."
-old EU Han Solo.

Which is one of the néetest things about this. Moving forward, all the new comics, and novels and games and etc WILL BE official canon, and just as legitimate as the films. The reboot is clearing out all the contradictions. And moving forward, the story group will hold it all together cohesively.

I just have a low tolerance for a lot of that EU stuff - sorry. :huh

Fair enough. This announcement is hitting some pretty big backlash. I'm wondering how this is gonna play out. It's done, though we may likely see some characters cross over from the old EU to the new. Everything is game now. Wide open possibility. I hope they make this work, and the new film isn't a giant pail of fail.
