Lol as much as I hate to admit it too, TPM isn't that bad when you watch it again on Blu Ray, I hate that ****ing kid though, like I HATE him. He was so much balls, I liked Jar Jar more

If Jar Jar had been silent, or spoke an untranslated language, he might have almost been tolerable.
Or just spoke like a normal ****ing Gun Gun

Yeah, the kid and Jar Jar aside, for me the first one isn't bad, but I have to try and ignore the story and dialogue and just enjoy the aesthetics of the movie. Because it does have a charming, vintage Star Wars feel from time to time. And some of the performances are good. The others didn't seem all that interested in retaining that kind of connection to the original, so they have very little value to me.

I wish they had killed Jar Jar and not Qui Gon

Good to see Episode I getting some love. It's the only prequel Star Wars movie I can actually enjoy.

It does seem to have that Star Wars feel at times. If only it didn't make such critical mistakes with the main story I'd actually accept it in my personal view of the canon. Unfortunately, by showing Anakin as a child, taken under the wing of this cool but completely unnecessary character of Qui-Gon, and having hardly any interaction with Obi-wan at all, I have to rule it out and consider it, ultimately, the waste that it is as an attempted Star Wars film.

But the other two are flat-out $h!t. Very little redeems them for me, least of all the POS Revenge of the Sith that some laughably claim is better than ROTJ. Yeah I said it.

You're trying to like Episode 1. And I understand. 3 movies exist featuring a whole order of dudes carrying laser swords.

But no. They're terrible. And they don't actually classify as real movies.

TPM has a lot to enjoy - it really does. Ian & Ray, Liam & Ewan - & Natalie, to a lesser extent.

The Naboo architecture & ships, royal guard, Theed palace battle - all great.

They're the things that redeem the film. You can pretty much forget about the rest.

Overall, I agree. It's a crap movie. But there are some things you can enjoy in crappy movies. Not that I would go out of my way to ever watch Phantom Menace again.

I find it funny that Lucas always defended these prequels by stating that they are made for children, and then goes ahead and slaughters dozens of kids in ROTS.

If you excise that scene, and the first 20 minutes of the movie, and shorten the absolutely stupid lightsaber battles where Anakin and Obi-Wan hit nothing with their lightsabers for a indeterminate amount of time, oh, and The laughable fight between Palpatine and Mace Windu +2, and wait, the stunnningly bad Vader Cry...

...forget it, I give up.

:slap

That being said, ROTS was still better than AOTC in my book.

It's like deciding which piece of poop looks good enough to eat.

:lol :lol

aaaand all of the Anakin/Padme scenes aaaaand the Padme losing the will to live scene aaaaaand Yoda fighting with a lightsaber aaaaaaand everything with General Grievous.....yeah, the film would start to remind of the Robo-deconstruction scene in the 2014 Robocop movie - *shrieks* ''there's nothing left!!!''

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

We were all led to believe Grievous was this incredible warrior who were slaughtering Jedi like it was nothing and stealing their lightsabers. And when we finally saw him in the movies, he was this annoying asthmatic android who was only feared by battle droids. And that is just one reason why the prequels were a terrible let down.
