If the new lightsaber is an accident...I mean, ancient weapon, then it makes sense for future lightsabers to be improved and without the dangerous cross guards. Many Jedi warriors lost their hands using those things in the past.

Yes, that's what early rumors suggest. That's why it looks medieval.

it isn't just the appearance, but the sound of the beam... the instability of the beam... not as much as "an elegant weapon for a civilized time" that we have come to know.

Right on. And i did hear a rumor long ago that Driver's character is Sith artifact obsessed.

That was cucumberbatch doing the talking, no?

I think so too.

It's Andy Serkis

Superhero Feed @SuperheroFeed Follow The voice behind the 'STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS' trailer confirmed as Andy Serkis! #HYPE!

Parts of Maul, Vader and Palpatine were found in horcruxes and Voldermort Sith will be born... Just guessing what JJ will do. Maybe Luke's mothers brothers kid will be in it as the bad guy. I'm gonna watch the Gravity Falls series to get more JJ ideas. Time travel! Lol

Yeah, even if that lightsaber is old and possibly from "medieval" times, the saber guards still don't make a bit of sense. :lol

As others have said, whoever you're dueling can just slide his saber down your blade and slice them off.

I think it looks cool though, and the unstable fiery/electric look of the blade is interesting.

perhaps the lightsaber guards "not making sense" is intended to demonstrate simply how old the weapon is...

not that making sense in a fantasy film set in a galaxy far far away is of any importance. if this was 1977, we would be crafting these sabers out of Christmas wrap tubes and letting our imaginations fly. i am happy JJ held on to his inner child... perhaps he will yet coax a few more out of us all.

The Falcon made the trailer for me. Just knowing Han and Chewie are in that thing, that Ford and Mayhew are back, hearing that theme, it's pure 'Wars.

Trailer looks like the same ol' same ol'...Vader breathing, more overblown dogfights, a NEW lightsaber...WoW.
Truly amazes me the crap that gets people so hyped up these days...LOL

I would have appreciated a main character beyond a Maul stand-in and Padme stand-in. The prequel-looking vehicle and droid aren't helping.

My reaction was the same as for the title - nothing to get very excited about.

The new X-Wings shot is very cool but the Falcon/TIEs thing feels like a cut scene from a video game.

It's better than the Inquisitor's two lightsabers on a spinning wheel.

The cross-guards might be nothing more than for appearance. Many weapons have non-functional but intimidating features.
