Wonderful- if only he had the guts to do it!
Poor George must be screaming right now:rotfl

Hundreds of interesting alien races to choose from and we get these new generic-looking ones? Sigh

REALLY? We looking at the same pic?
Half of them all have the same gross, scrunched-up face and the other half look like cheap rip-offs of currently existing Star Wars aliens.

That line up looks very Doctor Who like imo. Nice to see lots of practical suits though, can't complain.
Yeah, I'm very glad that they're practical - just wish they had used existing designs.

I thought the same. First thing I've seen from Force Awakens that I've been really dissapointed with.
I know they are just background extras, but they look like something from a cheap to show. Very crap looking IMO. Would it have been too hard to stick a Rodian or Twilek in there? A lot f those faces look mushed together without much thought.

Wow . . . joking about the obscure death of a universally hated character . . . that JJ is such an edgy rebel! :rotfl
(What if, after this film's release, its director becomes known as Jar Jar Abrams?)

/\All jokes aside, this looks like a casting call from 2002-era Farscape.

Yep.
Didn't use even ONE of already existing SW races for that shot and it's very worrying.
None of these look cool or interesting.

Looks like a group shot from anywhere SW Universe to me. :dunno They couldv'e been in another corner of the bar on Tatooine or somewhere in Jabba's palace from the looks of them or any other alien in the background.

Out of context, many of the Cantina aliens would've looked.....weird too
The Bith, Greedo, Gotal, Arcona, Ortolan, werewolf guy, Walrusman, Hammerhead/Ithorian, etc - those were unique and interesting designs. Weird? Yes. Ugly? Sure. But not one of them resembled the other, certainly not to the extent of these new aliens. They had personality.

Even the PT had fantastic, original alien designs.

I'm willing to bet in 35+ years no one will be interested in owning collectibles of those Force Awakens pirate aliens.

I'm still very excited for the movie, this is just a minor annoyance. I was hoping there would be more alien main characters in this trilogy, because there are some great designs from the past films that are only seen for a few shots, but now it seems that those designs won't even be in the background. :(
