I love the OT films, but I maintain the strong opinion that popcorn flicks is all they ever were, and their deep appeal is a combination of historical context, lucky accidents and nostalgia.

I'm of the opinion that the PT lacks these significant crutches and suffers from considerably worse scripting and dialogue as well as a general lack of texture, pacing and coherence that specific set pieces and occasionally beautiful design are insufficient to rescue it from.

And it lacks truly innovative effects relative to the incredible leaps made with the first three. I mean, for the most part, those late 70's/early 80's effects still hold up to this day. PT effects already seem dated.

P
So the names Kylo Ren, Finn, Poe Dameron :lol, Rey, Captain Phasma, Maz Kanata, and Supreme Leader Snoke? How about the desert planet Jakku? :rotfl

Its like a 12 year old coming up with these names. The EU at least had some thought into it. The Jedi Knight games with Kyle Katarn? The KOTOR games? I mean wow, their cinematic trailers destroy anything in the PT. Seems like they are at least keeping the Solo or Skywalker lineage from the EU.

I know that Lucasfilm has formed a new story group to help with ongoing continuity, but I don't have any trust in them at this point. JJ Abrams to be is a TV guy. Its been a money grab from the beginning and I just expect popcorn flicks from them, nothing deeply appealing like the OT was.

I am ok with those names, to be honest.

They're a bit silly. Sillier than anything I can recall from the post ROTJ EU. Not that I myself care a great deal that the EU has been wiped out, I wasn't particularly attached.

Look at that, not a digital effect in sight. As 3PO would say "wonderful!"

True. :lol

Nah, that set looks fabulous, it really does. It's a pity that it's simply pandering & a phase.

When these studios start to feel the pinch of what such extravagance (in their minds) is doing to their bottom line, their ***holes will close up & they'll rush back to their digital security blanket. :lecture
