The prequels were something of a reboot anyway in the way they disregarded the originals :monkey3
Yeah, I love the bit where uncle George establishes Ben & Anakin's relationship in STAR WARS, by some light exposition on sir Alec's part - giving us the impression that when Ben met him, he was of an age that would've been not too far from his own, & was already an accomplished pilot & warrior.

Forget that.

Episode 1 basically made all that redundant.. from a certain point of view. No young 'man about the galaxy' to be seen anywhere, just an excitable kid with a giant spherical head, loving his go-kart & hating that he's bound to a flying blue pigmy Tapir with an Italian accent.

..then he says the saga was always about Anakin..

:lol :lol :lol

To be fair, a lot of that was your own extrapolation. Nothing Ben tells Luke is actually contradicted in TPM... from a certain point of view. Except maybe how Ben came across. anakins lightsaber. :lol

My main issue with the prequels was that you met Anakin too young and he wasn't likeable. For my money i'd've started with him a bit older and more established in the first, have him fall in the second and have Obi Wan trying to stop this new Sith Lord, which turns out to be him in the third.

Having said that, I loved TPM and AoTC when they first came out. As i've grown up I've realised why they fell down in comparison to the OT that blew me away as a five year old, which was the feel of the films and that is why the SDCC footage got me so excited for TFA.

As for my comment on Episodes 10-12, nothing to laugh about, well except for the typo with 9, fixed, but it would make for a good trilogy. Don't be stupid and think Disney won't release more episodes, it is clear they will milk Star Wars, something I am fine with.

Why would you be happy the EU is dead?

I have always thought that it was often cheesy and poorly written. I really hated the idea/character/visualizations of Mara Jade. The idea of a Force resistant species is stupid. Even down to the names of the Skywalker/Solo children, just has really bugged me.

They may keep some ideas for the official cannon, but by and large I am the man standing at the edge of Disneys EU bonfire. Dancing gleefully.

That being said, for some reason I do like the PT and Pre-PT era EU novels.

So the names Kylo Ren, Finn, Poe Dameron :lol, Rey, Captain Phasma, Maz Kanata, and Supreme Leader Snoke? How about the desert planet Jakku? :rotfl

Its like a 12 year old coming up with these names. The EU at least had some thought into it. The Jedi Knight games with Kyle Katarn? The KOTOR games? I mean wow, their cinematic trailers destroy anything in the PT. Seems like they are at least keeping the Solo or Skywalker lineage from the EU.

I know that Lucasfilm has formed a new story group to help with ongoing continuity, but I don't have any trust in them at this point. JJ Abrams to be is a TV guy. Its been a money grab from the beginning and I just expect popcorn flicks from them, nothing deeply appealing like the OT was.

I love the OT films, but I maintain the strong opinion that popcorn flicks is all they ever were, and their deep appeal is a combination of historical context, lucky accidents and nostalgia.

I'm of the opinion that the PT lacks these significant crutches and suffers from considerably worse scripting and dialogue as well as a general lack of texture, pacing and coherence that specific set pieces and occasionally beautiful design are insufficient to rescue it from.
