EU destroyed and now luke a Virgin with no Wife (Mara Jade and Son Ben Skywalker). Chewie was supposed to die during Vong Invasion. Again Vong destroyed with EU. Funny how star wars... after 83 was kept alive through books, comics and stuff way after it was supposed to die out... then it just ****in eradicated like Alderrean by the Mickey Mouse Clubpire.

I agree with these parts. I miss the EU and for it to be thrown out and ran over by Micky Mouse makes me pretty mad.
:clap

I was disappointed about the EU getting thrown out too, but in reality there were only certain parts I liked and most SW fans were indifferent to it.

At least now the books, comics etc have equal status to the movies and they're all telling one big unified story.

**** i really like what i'm seeing so far. Is anyone else here that's around 40 or so feel an excitement as i do toward this? That's been around since the old school days and dislikes the PT? I dunno about all this UN-crowning Empire talk, but if there ever was a time for it......

I just want to walk out of a SW movie for the first time since '83 and go "that was pretty damn cool". If this movie can do that, it will erase the last 3 (minus JW score)

And i don't even really care about nostalgia at this point, just honor the old movies in this one and move on (which is what they're doing it sounds like) Fans are gonna ***** no matter what and in the internet age nobody likes anything so enjoy this if it suits you.

The PT we had a reason to hate, nothing about this suggests we are getting that! (cautiously optimistic? Sure.)

And when you hear fools crying about duckfaces, weird hilted lightsabers, lens flares, a woman stormtrooper, and black guy in a lead role all before they've seen the movie just remember......

INTERNETWEBZ

I'm with you.
*Duckfaces?: I like the design. It's not classic Star Wars, but I don't want to see a sad retread of the OT.
* Woman trooper?: It's Brienne of Trath for gods sake. She will kick ass. Her voice is great judging on the new masks.
* Weird lightsabres: At first I thought, oh now they are just looking for something new, but knowing (I Think) the story I love the broad sabre, it's look and dangerous light, the reason why it looks medieval.
* Lens flares: haven't seen any OTT ones yet.
* Black guy in the lead, that remains to be seen. I liked him in Attack The Block, but hard to tell if he's gonna be good or not based on trailers. He's a cool dude though.

People just wanna *****, there hasn't really been anything *so far* to genuinely have an issue with, except Disney's ridiculous "no green screen" "all in camera" ******** PR. I'm super excited for it right now. And that clip of John Williams score was fantastic...

I don't like Nazis.

The transporter looks really Nice, my kind of mech design.
Alas so far the rest us meh, cant wait to Check the artbook tho.
I do hope the first order soldier ´s are merciless, finn bloody helmet tends toward that direction.

Yeah, the bloody helmet says a lot about the tone. Also the sheer scariness of the brutal looking troop lander full of troopers with *flamethrowers* is darker than anything I've seen even suggested in OT SW.

And it's a good thing... why exactly?

I hope the movie has bit of an edge tonally. I fear Disney and their mass marketing more than I feared Lucas and his craziness.
The OT had suggested seriousness and darkness for the most part, I think we need genuinely *bad*, bad guys in this, some urgency and genuine danger/turmoil.

OT was dark like half the time at max.
Cuting imaginary Vader's head and then Luke's palm off were the edgiest things in the entire trilogy.
Same goes to PT.

The dark stuff of Star Wars works because it's not edgy, and because the rest is silly and sometimes cheesy.

What can possibly be more dark than Anakin killing children?
But was it "edgy"? Not really.

The brief shot of burnt Owen and Beru in ANH was stronger and more powerful to ally than anything in ROTS.

It's about context. I like ROTS but it was cartoon violence.
