The Force Awakens definitely feels like a follow up to the OT, I love the look of everything! I wonder what approach Disney will take with the opening scroll? A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away or In a Galaxy far, far away. Here are my thoughts on what we have seen and where it could go. I haven't read any pages back so I apologize if anything is repeated.

Rey: Definitely the heroin of the new saga. At first I thought she and Luke have been working together finding force sensitive beings and that her staff was a spear sabre (sabre on just one end) or double short bladed sabre. After the new trailer I think she not only doesn't know Luke but isn't force trained at all and gets involved in the new struggle while on one of her scavenger runs. Perhaps she comes across BB-88 who is in possession of Anakins sabre or gets involved when she comes across Finn who crash lands on Jakku. She and Finn both looked surprised when Han relates that the stories of the Jedi/Sith/Force are all true that tells me they aren't trained or even thought it was possible to do such things.

Finn: I think hes the new Han he may be force sensitive but I think not. He just has the sabre because he and Ray are on a "mission" to return it to a Skywalker heir. When he confronts Ren in the woods he just uses it to defend himself.

Kylo: I think Kylo and the Knights of Ren are a group of Force sensitives who emulate Vader and have been gathered by the new "Emperor" character and Kylo wants to take it to the next level and gets involved with the First Order who give him new resources to finish what Vader started but we don't know what Kylo believes that to be. Does he mean exterminate all Jedi/force users or turn Luke to the Dark Side or Bring balance to the force or something entirely new we don't know what he believes based on what hes been told or discovered for himself.

Luke: I don't know what to think about Luke yet, is he training Jedi or has he completely abandoned that thought and just kept the Force within himself to maintain balance and to prevent the resurgence of the Dark side. There is some reason why he is being kept completely secret. The leaked concept art that showed the burnt Vader helm was being held by the new bad guy who also had a robotic right hand very similar to the hand of the cloaked figure touching R2 in the trailer. Could Luke in fact be the new "Emperor" or is he using the Knights or Ren to gather and destroy the relics of the Sith and Kylo falls to the dark side and decides to continue in Vaders path. The only thing I fear is there will be a moment where Luke comes in to save the heroes and is already a force ghost and that is why he hasn't been shown.

Man, are you going to be surprised.

I love reading fan speculation -- like the "Ken" thing -- it's so.... "varied".

you know, I know we saw a picture of Driver without helmet for entertainment weekly, but that could have been a set photo. Dave Prowse played Vader but did we ever see HIS face in the movie? It COULD be someone else's face under that mask. There WILL be a reveal. That's an Abrams specialty. Whether that's the reveal or not is up in the air.

You mean all the press that says Adam Driver plays Kylo Ren is a lie, besides the shot in the new trailer with his wild hair?

I've read the "leaked" script I don't buy it 100% is there anywhere you can direct me so I can know what you know?

No, he plays him with the helmet on, in costume. The back shot could be anyone. They haven't shown his face. That one pic from entertainment weekly could just be a red herring. Ren's face could be that of another actor. They did it with Vader. They could do it with Kylo.

So you mean someone else could be doing the voice? Or Sebastian Shaw will be under the mask? :lol

Yeah, I definitely see them paying Driver to play the hidden unseen face of Kylo Ren. *shakes head*

He's not super famous. He doesn't cost a ton of money. Why not show his face in the trailers then? I'm just speculating on potential twists or reveals. Maybe they will give him another part that will show his face. It's just fun to speculate.

I know you are, but that seems like a real stretch for no payoff.

BTW, for those PT-fans who always say that no one really thinks the PT is bad except a few angry internet posters, well there's a discussion on CNN right now and the host says "Now most people found the last series of films to be unsatisfactory..." Would they even say it like that if there wasn't a huge consensus?

I'd say there was indeed a consensus, albeit a lessening one as time goes on because the kids who grew up with the PT have learnt how to debate and ''strike back'' with their own perspective and opinions. They're wrong but y'know, that's what is happening over the years nevertheless :D

I decided to give the PT another try today.

Watched TPM and it wasn't nearly as bad as I found it before. :lol

I always thought the pod race was the highlight, and I still find it an outstanding sequence.

The things that still really irk me are the numerous attempts at 'humour', generally through Jar Jar's stupidity. There's just too much cartoon comedy going on.
And the other thing is the voices of the Battle Droids. "Roger, roger." :yuck

(Saying that, if I concentrate hard enough I can imagine them as Cylon voices).

The cause feels like the age of Anakin dictating the age at which this film was pitched, in spite of the more complex issues regarding politics and trade.

Onwards and downwards...AOTC is next. Lets see if I my generous attitude holds up!

Finn Kenobi.

:lol

I'm thinking Finn is just the 'Solo' of the new trilogy. There's already enough connections. His being a deserter is an interesting subplot; I wonder how much they'll really explore that idea over the series?
