I remember the last scene quite well. That kid who had very little to do with the story showing that we can all be Jedi. Cut to credits. Mercifully.

I’m not sure why this was taken that way. Not everyone in SW universe is force sensitive. You don’t have to be a Jedi/Sith to be force sensitive.

Contradicts nothing. Yoda himself said the force surrounds and penetrates and is a part of all living things. That doesn’t mean everyone is force sensitive.

It maybe life’s music, but not everyone is a Vladimir Horowitz.

People tend to forget that despite how Luke is handled in the film, he comes around at the end.

As someone who does not hate Luke in TLJ.. I have to ask.. Does he really come around at the end??

I mean When you think of OT Luke dealing with Vader in ROTJ and how he believed in him until the end. Even when Vader was trying to kill him.. Luke was always compassionate to his father.

In TLJ he is just smack talking Kylo the whole time. Instigating him. Yes it was to "stall for time" but it seems an effort to try to reach him could have stalled for time also.

Perhaps its because he could feel the conflict within Vader and there is no such conflict within Kylo.

Not a big deal I guess. Like I said I did not hate the way Luke was handled in this film But I fully understand why people might.

Either way I still hate more then half this movie :lol

Here is another 30 ear old virgin video of Hate that I agree 90% with :lol (Thought he does make some factual errors that no nerd should)

While I don't hate TLJ like some and can find a bit to enjoy it is a major letdown story wise. I think the above video makes some great points about letting a fan of the franchise be in control and I am not sure Kennedy is a fan.

But again it comes back to the story in TLJ.. Too much of it revolved around Holdo and her secret. I know some have said she may have been worried that there was a traitor on board.. But couldn't that same traitor tip off the bad guys two min before they abandoned ship to the planet? So again we are left with 70% of the film being based on silliness. :). She says that Poe risked the rebellion by coming up with a plan to stop the bad guys.. But it really should have no effect.. (I think that was pointed out in cinema sins).

Anyways Even though I did not hate the film. it has killed my excitement for Star Wars. I have yet to see Solo because of this. I will see it in theaters but I have never missed a Star Wars film on opening night or weekend.

Guess I came back to posting on this thread because of the above video.. I have swayed back to the dark side.. Ir the light side depending on your point of view :lol

It's a **** film, Star Wars or not.
Enjoyable parts are generic and very few and far between, in no way they can outweigh the rest of this mess.

Pretty much. It’s just a bad movie. It kills pretty much all the excitement for future Star Wars movies. These new characters are the most unmemorable to ever carry a franchise. I wouldn’t be surprised if this movie gets retconned in the future.

Go watch the episode “33” of Battlestar Galactica, which I believe is the first real episode after the pilot miniseries, and tell me that they didn’t do the entire “fleet gets tracked and followed by the bad guys” plot about 1000x better than TLJ. Frankly, it makes the writing for TLJ just seem incredibly lazy in comparison.

I didn’t hate TLJ but I also have no real desire to watch it a third time even though I picked up the Blu-ray when it hit. I do believe time will bear out that it is not that good, similar to how it took a while for people to come to terms that Phantom Menace wasn’t that good.

I think the biggest failing is that the movie sets up how it is going to take the series in a bold new direction where maybe there won’t be any more Jedi (all of Luke’s preaching) and that good and evil won’t be so clearly separated (Kylo and Rey connecting and him asking her to forgot about the dark and light side and just join him in forging a new path) but at the end just throws all that away to keep the same status quo of the empire vs. the rebels and oh yeah there are still Jedi. I think that’s really the core reason that so many people find the movie pointless in the end and don’t care too much about what happens in the next one.

I don't feel a strong inkling to watch this again. . .but the polarization that the movie has led to alone makes me kinda want to re-watch it, going in and knowing what happens. I did feel that the movie left us essentially where Force Awakens did, in terms of the primary protagonist and antagonist. But I wasn't at all excited going into this one, so this movie didn't kill any momentum in my mind.

I agree in the sense that IMO TFA introduced Poe, Finn and Rey in very charming ways and sustained them with great charisma. One of my main criticisms of TLJ is that most of that is squandered. Rey has no charm at all. While I like Poe's growth, he is simplified, reduced to attain it. And poor Finn, who I felt was the heart of TFA, is sort of rewound on the technicality that he never declares himself a "rebel" in TFA. I don't hate Rose and on it's own I like her story and her sister's impact on her. But when I listen to Johnson state that it was originally meant to be a Poe/Finn adventure that was changed because it was too generic with two guys - only to be replaced by an equally generic adventure but with a new, less charismatic sidekick, it's hard to defend the director against the contrarian/hipster descriptives.

I thought you liked the movie lol. But yea all this diversity and stuff and it’s done poorly.
1. You have your main black guy be a janitor and follow around a white women for no apparent reason whatsoever. Got his *** kicked throughtout the movie. His arc is basically over. He has no challenge to rise up toward now that phasma is gone.

And then we have rey. Boy where do I begin. I love that we have a female Jedi. This is good. Star Wars doesn’t have many female characters. But she is without a doubt one of the most dry , boring, uninteresting character in all Star Wars films as the main character. Having your hero go through no trials or defeats is a lazy way of writing your character. If you wanted a strong woman then you have her overcome obstacles put in place not just be automatically good. Cause news flash! Women go through **** everyday. That’s why Spider-Man is a beloved character. Despite all his powers he still goes through so much crap and learns a lesson to better himself. Even almighty superman does this. Just my two cents . I don’t want to cause a flame war again

Khev and Jye circling like sharks now looking at this. They coming for you bro. :lol

Is that what happened? Oh man, those two would have made a much more fun and likeable team. Their few moments together in TFA were kind of funny (not in the cockpit but when they were marching to the ship). Some genuine character comedy -- some warmth -- was so desperately needed in TLJ.

I don't know... Personally I found the new characters rather disappointing in TFA. Rey and BB8 I liked. Fin was ok but Poe, the movie could have gone without Poe and nothing would have changed. On the villain side, I felt Kylo Ren was less threatening and more petulant crybaby man-child, Hux was the stereotypical try-hard imperial officer that was bound to fail and Snoke was the compulsory emperor replacement.

I think much of the praise TFA got was because many viewed it while blinded by nostalgia.

Am I the only one who could care less for Poe? He had no story arc in the TFA, couldn’t care less for his story in TLJ. You could remove him from both movies and he would not be missed. I never understand how people say “he’s the new Han”!! Take Han away from the OT and a HUUUUUGEE part of the OT is missing! ****ing Poe!!
