Am I the only one who could care less for Poe? He had no story arc in the TFA, couldn’t care less for his story in TLJ. You could remove him from both movies and he would not be missed. I never understand how people say “he’s the new Han”!! Take Han away from the OT and a HUUUUUGEE part of the OT is missing! ****ing Poe!!

Like you read my mind about Poe. :D

For most, having some distance on TFA makes it easier to see it for what a middling effort it was -- solely driven on nostalgia for ancient characters that should never have been resurrected just to "toss aside" carelessly in an effort to "rebuild" the franchise.

Poe, Finn, and even Rey will never raise to the level of interest and love that people had for the original characters. I doubt any lasting impression will be made on kids, even the ones who think they love this now. It will fade with time. They'll likely come around to the original ones.

To me the character of Poe existing in the same character bubble of "Ric Olié” or Captain Panaka (boring)
Disney ****ed up the formula/chemistry that was the magic of the OT which was “playing & sharing adventures together". If I was a young kids today hanging with my buddies and decided to go outside an play "The Last Jedi". I call Finn, another calls Rey and a third calls Poe we would just stare at each other and say “What now”!!! What have these three done together that we kids could climb fences, run around in the grass etc? What are the environments I am imagining?? Its not the
Death Star, Falcon Death Star Escape, Hoth, Jabba Palace or Endor I remember playing. Oh we have more friends OK well your Chewie, your R2, your 3P0!!!

Todays world you can be Rose.. 8(

Lol what lost fool said he was the new han? I’m not even a huge Han Solo fan and I can tell you that he had an iconic presence on screen. What’s his face was barely in tfa and he was a little better in TLJ but still he did nothing that stood out. Just all around boring characters.

I thought you liked the movie lol. But yea all this diversity and stuff and it’s done poorly.
1. You have your main black guy be a janitor and follow around a white women for no apparent reason whatsoever. Got his *** kicked throughtout the movie. His arc is basically over. He has no challenge to rise up toward now that phasma is gone.

And then we have rey. Boy where do I begin. I love that we have a female Jedi. This is good. Star Wars doesn’t have many female characters. But she is without a doubt one of the most dry , boring, uninteresting character in all Star Wars films as the main character. Having your hero go through no trials or defeats is a lazy way of writing your character. If you wanted a strong woman then you have her overcome obstacles put in place not just be automatically good. Cause news flash! Women go through **** everyday. That’s why Spider-Man is a beloved character. Despite all his powers he still goes through so much crap and learns a lesson to better himself. Even almighty superman does this. Just my two cents . I don’t want to cause a flame war again

I’ve been straightforward about my pros and cons on TLJ, which have evolved as I continue to consider it.

But I don’t follow on your black guy/janitor (negative stereotype somehow) blindly following a white girl scenario.

For one thing, I don’t equate Finn starting out in sanitation as any kind of racial statement. For another, it’s illustrated both visually and articulated verbally that Rey is one of the first friendly faces he’s encountered in ages. He’s had a terrible life and values friendship. It’s the opposite of “for no reason.”

That's a great analogy... but its lost on "kids today" and their cell phones. Play outside? Huh? What?

Made me laugh though:

1978 --

Kid #1: And you be Rose.
Kid #2: Me!? No way. You be Rose. I want to be.... uh, well, anyone except Rose.
Kid #1: Wait so who else is there?
Kid #2: No one really. Let's play something else.
Kid #1: OK. Fury Road. I'm Max. You're Nux.

Having s black guy as a janitor is very stereotype as it’s showing he’s not capable of doing to much instead of being a lackey . Him following rey even though she accused him of stealing is also very weird. He has this blind loyalty to her when he should be more friends with the guy who actually saved his life. It’s a stereotype for black men to chase after white women and black Women get very upset about it. How I view it is that’s the only girl he’s seen and he’s trying to get some ***. I didn’t see any friendship between them at all just a dude cruising for booty.

I believe his words were you the first person who looked at me like I mattered. When the first thing she did was accuse him of stealing lmao.
So yea there relationship is hard to believe

Vader was pretty weak in the OT. I mean, the poor old guy had to hang onto a wall to keep from being sucked out of that Bespin room like Luke in ESB.

The Force couldn't hold him in place?

Go watch the episode “33” of Battlestar Galactica, which I believe is the first real episode after the pilot miniseries, and tell me that they didn’t do the entire “fleet gets tracked and followed by the bad guys” plot about 1000x better than TLJ. Frankly, it makes the writing for TLJ just seem incredibly lazy in comparison.

I didn’t hate TLJ but I also have no real desire to watch it a third time even though I picked up the Blu-ray when it hit. I do believe time will bear out that it is not that good, similar to how it took a while for people to come to terms that Phantom Menace wasn’t that good.

I think the biggest failing is that the movie sets up how it is going to take the series in a bold new direction where maybe there won’t be any more Jedi (all of Luke’s preaching) and that good and evil won’t be so clearly separated (Kylo and Rey connecting and him asking her to forgot about the dark and light side and just join him in forging a new path) but at the end just throws all that away to keep the same status quo of the empire vs. the rebels and oh yeah there are still Jedi. I think that’s really the core reason that so many people find the movie pointless in the end and don’t care too much about what happens in the next one.

I actually think TPM has gone through a couple of phases..

1. New Star Wars I love it o matter what
2. It was disappointing but its still Star Wars
3. Its an abomination to the Star Wars Universe
4. Its really not all that bad.

Yep 33 on BSG is a far better telling of that story. Way more exciting and interesting.

I don't hate Rose and on it's own I like her story and her sister's impact on her. But when I listen to Johnson state that it was originally meant to be a Poe/Finn adventure that was changed because it was too generic with two guys - only to be replaced by an equally generic adventure but with a new, less charismatic sidekick, it's hard to defend the director against the contrarian/hipster descriptives.

Is that what happened? Oh man, those two would have made a much more fun and likeable team. Their few moments together in TFA were kind of funny (not in the cockpit but when they were marching to the ship). Some genuine character comedy -- some warmth -- was so desperately needed in TLJ.

Did not know that either.. ****ing Johnson.

By the time we meet Finn he’s already shown that he’s capable of advancing. :dunno

“He should be more friends the guy who saved his life...” ....the guy who he thinks is dead? :dunno

You’ve seen this movie, right?

Not really? He’s seen getting his *** kicked throughout the entire film. Advancing my ***. By the second film he wins by luck.

Forgot about that part but still found out he’s alive he should be more indebted to him don’t ya think? Instead of following rey around for no reason. In this movie his first words are where’s rey. It’s pathetic. Try asking what happened to you first.

I was under the impression her WAS SAYING he was a janitor to hide the fact he was a stormtrooper......

If he actually was a janitor it has to be before he was a stormtrooper.....you guys saw the movie right? The entire first scenes shows FINN IS A STORMTROOPER.

We also hear Phasma say he's has been trouble before...

He didnt want any of them to know he was a soldier on the opposing side..

I never saw it like that. Even now that you mentioned it, I still don't see it that way. I don't even think he was following Rey around. The only reason why he initially went with her was because she was a way for him to get away from the First Order. Finn was probably closer to Solo than Poe was in the sense that he was the guy who was initially in it for selfish reasons, but eventually turned around and did something selfless to help a friend. In fact, Finn's and Rey's friendship is no less believable than Luke's and Han's were at the end of ANH.

In this movie his first words are where’s rey. It’s pathetic. Try asking what happened to you first.

Probably because his last conscious moment before this was spent defending Rey against a sobbing, plasma-sword (I will never see lightsabers as laser swords lol) wielding, man-baby. If I were Finn I'd probably be asking the same question when I wake up.

I've had some issues with TFA, but the Rey/Finn friendship wasn't one of them.

I remember hearing that Poe was originally supposed to die in TFA when the Tie Fighter crashes, Oscar Isaac requested that his character not die, KK and JJ agreed. So there's a reason Poe feels so unnecessary, he's not supposed to be there.
