What's interesting is if it was one of the three characters you mentioned we as the audience would probably have very specific assumptions as to who they were talking about when telling Poe "I know your kind; impulsive, dangerous and exactly what we don't need right now."

If Ackbar said it we could assume he was saying "we don't need a crazy ROTJ Lando right now."

If Lando said it we could assume he meant "we don't need a crazy Han Solo right now."

And Mon Mothma would have us assuming she meant "we don't need a crazy Jyn Erso right now."

It definitely would have been cool to have that extra layer of context to the dialogue. That said I still am fine with Dern's portrayal of Holdo and the fact that she was a brand new character. But yeah it definitely would have been cool to see how it would have played with someone else as well.

I would still be frustrated when I figured out that ultimately nothing happens and the conflict was nothing more then a plot convenience... But it would have made for much better drama. An established character who made good decisions in the past is far better then some boring silly looking, out of place, character that I have no interest in and does nothing but make the wrong choice each and every time.

Everyone talking about the China numbers... Isn't it known that SW is not all that popular over in China? Not like the rest of the world?

Now I get that some will say that is why Rose was in the film... It may be.. But that is assuming that the Chinese people are very shallow and apparently racist :lol

Even when I struggled through the film on my first viewing, Rose wasn't one of the problems I had with it. By the third I still don't have a problem with her.

Yes TLJ definitely had awesome side characters and there was no awesome shock in RO that could compare with watching Luke's saber turn and skewer Snoke followed by Williams' epic music as it once again flew to Rey's outstretched hand. Some TLJ moments were truly off the charts.

And can you believe that Gareth Edwards has now appeared in the same amount of SW movies as Billy Dee Williams?? :lol :yess:

I think a better off the chart moment would've been Luke showing up to face Snoke and Kylo and Rey dying in the fight, doubt the producer or directer has the courage to go in that direction.

An established character would help plus a line about a possible FO insider/sympathizer (and a disagreement about whether hyperspace tracking is even possible) would have made the secrecy make more sense, but surely Poe wouldn't be a suspect so keeping him out of the loop is still problematic.

The original Mothma is still alive, she's 85 or so though, and I'm not sure folks would really recognize her or buy that she's still a leader at that advanced age. She was just on some show called Poldark as the character Aunt Agatha.

Aunt Agatha dies!

Its her performance and lack of anything real to the plot that drives me up a wall.. Again this film is made up of so many ideas and decisions that go nowhere or make no sense... Rose and McPurple IMO are the best examples of this.

I will say that my dislike of rose was not as strong the second time.. But I liked Derns character less.. I hate her look and her character.. I like Dern in many other films but not this one.

"Nothing happens??"

You're just heated cause they're right and you just can't ****ing stand it.
I've seen nothing but damage control come from you. You then comeback after someone makes a good point you don't agree with, with what you think is clever wordplay to get your point across and it just ends up making the flaws stand out even more.

I mean, I could spend my afternoon scouring Utube for opinions of people who are similar to mine.....and flood a thread here with stuff that’s on Utube....

There is a comments section on Utube as well where people can comment on those videos. I come here to post with forum members....if I wanted to see YouTube videos I would goto Utube.

Damage control? For what? I have said and maintained the same thing since the film came out. 50 percent like it 50 percent did not. Continually bashing the film for weeks (and posting videos to support what’s been said hundred of times already) is basically spam.

There has been some intelligent discussion about the film and what it means to fans , but there is much more thread crapping and repetitive reposting Things from other sites to support some kind of weird obsession people have to repeat over and over how much that hate it?

At least my opinions are mine and I don’t have to have them supported by some video by some stranger on the internet....

Anyone who attempts to claim that TLJ is of the same quality as a Transformers movie would never be taken seriously.

We have member who think it reasonable to compare it to Batman and Robin.......

The original Mothma is still alive

Interesting. For some reason I thought it had been said that she passed. Yeah she's pretty unrecognizable now. They might have been better off just aging the actress from RO, though Dern has an obvious spark to her that played well off of Isaac.

I really hope they make a Rogue Two. I mean, they don't need to title it that, but they should be considering giving Edwards another shot at another Rebellion v Empire–based movie that takes place around one of the OT films. Rogue One showed that these movies can live without the main heroes we know. Plus they introduced some interesting characters that could potentially show up again -- Draven, Mothma, some of the cool aliens that didn't get much screen time, and didn't die on Scarif or Jedha (Two Tubes, Moroff). Even if it didn't have any of those characters it seems like they made a template for what can work.

Plus it'd be nice to have a movie where you don't assume that everyone is likely to die at the end.

i agree though, i don’t watch them so they don’t add much. :lol

You got me there.....

My kids spend hours watching content on that site....show me stuff they think is great....and I just find it amateur and boring as hell.

I found it interesting when it first started .....now it’s unbearable to look at anything but trailers.

Whoever said that is foolish. How dare they. There is no comparison, Batman and Robin is much, much better than the Last Jedi. Atleast Batman and Robin is a nice homage to the 60s series and that era of the character while never taking it self too seriously despite all the lame jokes. TLJ ****s on Star Wars.

I'll take Arnold Scwarzenegger's ice puns over Daisy Ridley's wooden acting or lame yo momma jokes. Nonfunctional Batnipples over actual lactating nipples. Real sets over video game tier garbage. Batman and Robin skyboading under the atmosphere over Leia flying in space. Batman, Robin and Batgirl running off to fight over Disney boy looking up at the stars and making a wish to be a Jedi. You get the picture.

Last Jedi is better than Transformers though, I'll give it that. I only saw the first one and whichever one came out around the time Michael Jackson died. No plot, action disorienting, too loud. Hated em'.

The fact that Last Jedi is in the same dialogue as Attack of the Clones, Batman and Robin, and now, Transformers, is just hilarious to me. You have people going, "b-b-but muh TLJ is atleast better than *insert crappy movie here*". Fantastic.

Looking forward to TLJ and Battlefield Earth comparisons. Never saw it before, but I bet those mother****ers breathe in space.

H3H3 is the only reason I watch it, besides a few gaming channels. It’s turned to poo.

If this were 1997, with the way you're acting now, you'd be defending Batman and Robin while I was talking **** on it!:lol

"C-can't you guys just stop coming in here 24/7, hating on it! You only have to post that you didn't like it once! We get it, 50% of audiences don't like it!"

I wonder if I debated with some of you online during the time prequels came out when I used to talk snack about those. I can see it now, Jye with his yahoo account defending Anakin and Padme's romance while I roasted it. "B-b-but Jango Fett's seismic charge bombs in space, i-i-it was #1 box office champ for a couple of weeks!" No Jye, no!

Don't worry fellas, a few decades from now when another awful movie rears it's ugly head maybe I'll put in some favorable words for the Last Jedi for my arguments against said awful movie. Maybe then we'll be enlightened with TLJ's brilliance. Though, I can't imagine another big movie being much more ridiculous than TLJ.
