Anyone who thought the third SW film in 3 years was going to make 1.7 to 1.8 billion was nuts. Dropoffs on random weekends ultimately don't matter, only the final tally and at an assumed 1.2 to 1.4 billion that's more than worthy enough to be recognized in the archives of the Jedi Order.

Before TLJ was released I predicted that it'd be the first Disney SW to earn less than a billion. I figured that with them pumping them out once a year that they'd settle for an annual take of 700-800 million. I guess Solo will be the first to have that "honor."

Disney was the first to know that a 800 to 1.1b would be the norm with the increased output.

But that’s ok let Wor-Gar, crows, aa and underworld think they discovered something special with the TLJ drop off something that an entire department of dedicated financial investment, accounting and legal staff over at Disney who specifically deal with this kind of stuff 24/7/365 would’ve never thought about it on their own lol.

Several analysts discussing the expectations for this movie on various financial outlets including CNBC stated estimates of $1.7-1.8B. These were based on early research showing high anticipation for the movie before the release. The drop off is a disappointment. But since you knew this wouldn’t do more than $1.3B then you’re smarter than Wall Street.

Disney never put out projections for this film, not sure where you’re getting your “information” from. If you follow the Disney stock analysts, for example on CNBC, they expected a ~15% drop off vs TFA. 35%-40% is well below these projections, hence wasted opportunity in terms of money left on the table.

But not sure why you guys care about the money, it’s just a movie to you. As a shareholder I should be pumping this movie instead of bashing it :lol

I'm just reporting the box-office, don't be so damn sensitive. I don't have an agenda. You Star Wars nerds, I swear....

The five stages of The Last Jedi grief.

Denial

It's a great film, it's a masterpiece! You just don't understand. Luke Skywalker was perfect. It has a 90% on rottentomatoes. It made like, a billion dollars dude. Everyone loved it!

Anger

These haters don't know what they're talking about. This is the best since Empire. All these trolls do is whine and complain, I'm sick of them. Loud minority.

Bargaining

C'mon, it's Star Wars. It's better than the prequels atleast. 50% audience approval on Rottentomatoes is nothing. I knew it wouldn't make that much in less than a month of it's release. 1.4 billion is a lot to ask, excpectations should be low from here on out, not every Star Wars can be the force Awakens. Everyone loved it, well except half the audience and China, but they don't matter. Surely you detractors liked a couple of scenes, right? Hyperdrive Kamikaze ammirite guys *nervous laughter*

>>>>>>YOU ARE HERE<<<<<<

Depression

I feel . . . cold. I don't feel like going to see Star Wars again this weekend. The opinions of the people on this forum make me sad. I hate the movie section. I'm cancelling my Hot Toys Admiral Holdo doll.

Acceptance

Wor and Crows and Grace and Mark Hamill were right, this movie does suck. What was I thinking, this is the worst since AOTC. I put it up there with SW and Empire. All those valid criticisms and I was too blind to see it. I won't fall for it again with Solo a Han Solo movie.

Ooh, Episode 9! Shiny

You guys need to stop fooling yourselves if you think Disney is happy with the BO results.. You think they don't care it's not making much in China? You think they care more about the domestic take than the international take? They look at the global totals. They have shareholders and investors. Shareholders and investors want revenues to grow, as does any companies financials year over year..

The goal of any company or business is never to make just as much the following year, or be satisfied with a little more than half of the previous take. You'd be kidding yourselves if you think this. I've never worked for a company that said "That's it boys! We peaked, it's all down hill from here. Let's just try to make half as much from here on out. It'll be great!! Time to relax and not bother to grow the company. Raises for all" Imagine if the tech industry decided to stop improving products every year, and just release new products in pretty new colors (This only works for Apple). Their business would slowly die.

Movies are a business. The goal and what they want is to make more money over the previous movie, and so on with every movie released. They may have expectations they settle for, but they are not high fiving, or patting each other on the back for a job well done. I've never received a bigger bonus this year because I did half as good as last year... Sorry guys, but... :cuckoo:

Wait so you’re saying that RO and TLJ were supposed to make more than TFA?

So you really believe that Disney realistically expected this scenario to occur with the SW brand:

TFA 2.2 billion
RO 2.3 billion
TLJ 2.4 billion
Solo 2.5 billion
IX 2.6 billion

So every new SW movie is now expected to earn over 2 billion now?

No, not at all. But they "Hope" (see what I did there?? Hope, :lol) it does. My point is for those who think Disney is satisfied and TLJ has made "enough". What they want and what they get are totally different things. But no one at a company is cheering when the expectations from financial analysts aren't met. They wan't to exceed those expectations or come as close as possible. Why would a company spend more money on the next installment of a movie if they believe it doesn't have a chance of making the same or more? RO & Solo are spinoffs. Something new. They were never gonna be held to the same standards as the saga movies. They are already doing damage control on Solo so they look good in the media. Meanwhile behind the scenes I'm sure they are still pretty unhappy about what happened with Solo.

From what jye has said before it sounds like Disney fires people no matter what they earn, lol. I'm not arguing against them having crazy standards or reactions for not meeting them. I only care about the films and not what division gets reprimanded or closed after every given release.
